One of my friends sent me a message on my PS3 console saying as of January 10th 2010 you will have to pay to go online on Playstation Network. Is this true or not.

well the Premium service is coming out soon but you have the choice of doing that or not....its kind of like it is on gamespot...but i dont know when this premium service will be here though...

Don't believe everything people say, it's a rumor unless from a trusted source, and I don't mean a trusted friend, I mean a credible source whose job is to report these kinda things.

I've been getting messages too about this, it's all lies. People are just trying to use scare tactics and have no idea what they are talking about. PSN will have paid subscriptions, but to play online it will always be free. Never fall for stupid chain mail.

Spam on PSN, who would have thought about. The last time a friend of mine sent me that mail, a couple of months ago, I just erased him.

Your friend is wrong.

You will be able to do everything you can already do for free forever, but you will have the option to pay for extra content.. that will probably be a ripoff.

I just deleted him and the message on my friends list.

I think that PSN online play will stay free but they will add some premium services.
