I seriously hate Sony. When they dropped the price of the PS3 I was like "Hey, cool...maybe Sony isn't too bad.. and I'm going to finally be able to afford a PS3".. Now they are getting rid of the $499 price and model...this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Well, Sony just lost another potential customer, since I will be not be shelling out $600 for a PS3, I don't care how many gigs it has..it could have 100000000000 for all I care... This is just sadistic, come on Sony...seriously... stop flip-flopping.
Sheesh, tough crowd... I not dissing the PS3.. I want one, they are cool. But i'm in college and have bills to pay, I can't just spend $600 bucks out of no where. I have been saving here and there for awile now... thanks for understanding... >_>

Dickheads aside, I feel what you're saying, OP. Sony just doesn't seem to know its own company is doing - so many contradictions doesn't impress me. I don't hope they fail, by any means, I just hope they get their crap together. So far it seems like "potential exceeds level of effort".
I'm not surprised to hear that a lot of folks just aren't as into the PS3 as the PS2 with stuff like this. Plus, $100 for 20 gb of space? Please. It better come with a severed Master Chief head or something. :)
I'm in college too. It's summer. It's called getting a job. I work full-time over the summer and I'm making $400 buck a week. Even if you don't make that much, I'm sure if you got a job, you'd have enough saved up after a couple of paychecks to quit complaining. I'm having hard time feeling sorry for you right now.
Okay, the $499 price and model will be around for months. Get it while you can. After that, yeah, sure, the 60GB will be gone but by then, it wouldn't matter. I would even hazzard a guess that the 80GB model will drop in price near the holiday season, a few months after the 60GB version is gone. That's my speculation though. So no reason to hate them, just get one while you can at the current $499 price, it's not like it will suddenly stop working once the 80GB hits.

actually thats 20 gb and motor storm btw im willing to bet my left nut that around christmas time the 80gb will sell for 499.99 without motor storm

RandomTask im on your side! I LOVE the PS3 and have a 60gig already, but now i feel its inferior =[ I really hope sony replaces it or adds a bigger HD because I bought this baby at launch. So because I had faith in their product and bought it early, i guess that gives them the right to screw me over...

Ok buddy, I do have a job and I make about $350 a week. I am also doing summer school to get ahead, which costs $300 a class and I'm currently paying it off. I have a car payment, incurance payment, apartment payments, Books, lab fees, just too name a few.. it costs to live, and $600 doesn't exactly fit into my budget right now. thats why I'm pissed.
I see no real reason to complain about this. You still have a good bit of time to buy a 60 gig at 499 and get the blu-ray movies. Kaz said that the stock will last for months, and logically it will. I think the last numbers I saw were 3.5-4million ps3s sold and 5.5 million total shipped, so logically they must have shipped total 6.5-7 million by now. Now yes ps3s have been doubling their sales with the price cut and blu-ray movies offer, but with the amount shipped, there are at least a million ps3s if not more left in stock for north america and the ps3 is still expensive to a lot of people, so in reality you have some good time before those units sell out. If you have a job, and save for a couple of weeks, then you should be able to get a 60 gig, well before they all sell out.

Screw you over? HOW? Will your PS3 no longer be able to be upgraded? Will you suddenly be unable to play PS3 games and BluRay discs? How are they screwing you over? I mean come on! Do you feel screwed over when a new PC comes on the market that's shinier and better than the one you bought last month? Do you really? GEEZ.
Sorry to jump all over you, I think PS3 fans have been answering these all day and are just getting upset. Anyway here is probably what is happening. 80gb drives are becoming the norm and 60gb drives are getting harder to get. So obviously Sony wants to move to the 80gb drives, but they can't just flip the switch, what will they do with the million units in the channel right now? So what they are probably doing is selling the 60's at $499, the 80's at $599 as a bundle, when the 60's are gone they will eliminate the 80gb bundle and make it $499 for system only. Hope that makes sense, I"m sure your upset but take a step back & look at it as you are getting more for your money either way and I really do think Sony is trying to do the best they can with the situation.
