Because average joe isn't very smart (I'm going to be flamed soo hard for this).. Check VGChartz, You'll see the adoption of ps3 in European, and japanese as well, are alot higher on ps3 compared to xbox 360.. I'm not saying there are more sold units in europe.. But if you check the stats, ps3 is only one million of 360.. Within a year? And I forgot to say that the ps3 launched several month later than intended in europe...

pretty much the reason on why to buy it, although the PSN network is poorly done, its not as nearly as supported on the 360, and kinda tends to lag a lot.

Like any good harware, the future should be a big focus. Its still better than having limited lifespan and unreliable hardware and a plathera of mediocre, OVERATED games as selling points...

When I said more players online I meant the games support more players. Resistance can have 40 players, Warhawk can have 32, Resistance 2 will have 60 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will have 16. Compared to Gears: 8, Halo 3: 16, and Forza 2: 8.

And the web browser works fine, HDMI is only on the elite, upgrading your PS3 with a cheap laptop HDD is good for people who want 250GBs, how can you call the Eye pointless when you can make stop-motion animation! oh, and video chat with your friends or just take plain pictures, video, or sound recording. When the battery dies in the controllers (which takes more than 5 years or something) Sony has a service so you can send them in and get the battery replaced for free. And Folding @ Home is already here, it's this program that simulates the folding of cancer cells and then sends the information to scientists to help cure cancer.

I had a PS2 before mine. Im sorry bro but i think people who were waiting to buy a ps3 or 360, such as myself, they went 360 because of the $600 price tag at launch, and the 360 already had a great online and game library. i have a ps3 and 360, but the ps3 was a little late in the race.
