Can you buy seperate hard drives for the Ps3? Like a 60GB and plug it into the 40GB model after removing the 40GB hard drive?

If so... will placing a 60GB hard drive into the 40GB model make the PS3 backwards compatible?

You can replace the hard drives.

No replacing the 40GB with the 60GB will NOT make it backwards compatible.

Lol:D Pardon me had to laugh first. Now uhhh you can replace the HDD has to be 2.5" SATA w/e but replacing it with a 60gb will not make it backwards compatible, if it was that easy all of us would have BC ps3. P.S. Its whats in the 60gb PS3 that gives it BC not the hard drive.

You can get a 120GB HDD for about $60 on newegg so if you're upgrading you might as well get something bigger. You still won't have BC, but you'll have more space to save music, movies, pictures, games, etc...
