I know I get on these boards and hate when people ask "Convince me to buy this console" or "What game should I get?" but I am committing the crime this time.

I read in IGN a couple months ago that the PS3 will begin phasing out the 20GB model. Now I am currently in school, I just got a credit card with a good limit and I plan on working full time this summer. So with all of this in mind I wanted to get your opinions on if I should get this machine based on my circumstances. In no way do I want to get the 60 GB model, I have a 360 and I never used media content or purchase it.

The biggest reason I am drawn to the PS3 is because I got my copy of Game Informer today and in it they previewed the home feature and the LittleBigPlanet thing and it looks so awesome.

Sorry if I am wasting space, I don't know anyone with a PS3 so I came on here to ask.

Well if you plan to get a full time job then I don't see the problem. I bought the PS3 from saving up from my job, and I don't regret it one bit.

Ditto.

It's a pretty reliable system, and the games coming out by the end of the year look to impress. It's a good time to be a gamer.

I don't know why people bash the PS3 for having no games, yeah right now I know, but I'm afraid I'll go broke by the end of the year  I plan to get at least 6 games coming up.

Like everyone has already noted, if you are getting a job, acquiring the 60GB model should be no problem.

The jump from $500 to $600 is not large if you're going to be spending that much anyway. (I'm assuming you're getting a game with the purchase as well which means you won't be walking out of the store spending any less than $560 anyway)

I say go for it man, if you can afford it and you put enough thought into it so you won't be really broke buying it then yeah.

Well, you don't want to use your credit card to buy the ps3 before you get a job. :P Anyway... Is not that hard to get the money for anything (in this case, a ps3) if you are willing to work for it and save up. :D
