I put the ps3 on my monitor using component (720p) and i noticed when im in the component input it does not use the whole screen and i cant figure out how to make it use the whole screen.  Do i need to hook it up to dvi to get the full screen?

Go to settings on you monitor and in the display part, mess with that. You can sometimes do 1:1 pixel mapping. Im guessing thats what you have right now 1:1.. but becuase you computer isnt whatever x720 it is 1680 x 1050 so you are actually bigger that 720. Use the HDMI to DVI though... It will look sooo much better.. how long ago did you get this monitor?

PC monitors dont use widescreen, they use another offstandard format which will either stretch a widescreen picture or cut it off at the tops. This is why you buy widescreen TVs if you want to view widescreen content.

I have the exact same monitor. Component cables require you to go to the  display settings and choose component. It supports up to 1080i with component. Just click on all the boxes and let the system handle the game rez's. If you upgraded to HDMI 2 DVI like I did the monitor does indeed support 1080p. I just found that out 2 days ago when I got my cables. Everything worked right out of the box with the official Sony cables I got, component I am refering to, and I just chose the boxes of the rez's  I wanted the monitor to display. It did not support 1080p through component but now does incase you are interested in upgrading to HDMI. PM me and I will show you how to get free HDMI 2 DVI cables. No joke.

no when im using the component cables it is in wide screen view and i did select 720p and 1080i and it flashed real quick to change the rez but still stayed in the widescreen format and i went through my settings on the screen and its on 1:1 ratio and i change to others but it still stayed widescreen no matter what i did.

Ok through your monitor, hit the menu button to bring up the on screen menu, go to the main menu tab, scroll it down to video adjust, go into video scaling and hit "Wide".

EDIT   -    Oh and obviously make sure you PS3 setting is set to widescreen 16x9 or 16x10.

Private message next to your username at the top of the page. BTW off topic but I just got the picture in picture to work with the monitor. Using my VGA and DVI and its awesome. I'm controlling my PS3 through the same screen as the PC display screen. Sweet.

Calm the hell down. You are just being annoying at this point. Not everyone is going to have your monitor... most people play on actual tvs. Learn how to be patient... Jesus.
