This is a strange question I know, but I have never actually got to use my PS4 before now and I actually don't have internet the place were it is, so my question just. I have bought a bunch of new games including Uncharted 4 and The Witcher 3. Will these games still work, even when the firmware on my PS4 has never and cannot at this time be updated ? Or is the latest firmware on the game discs + Can anyone who has never been online themselves perhaps confirm this ?

I am guessing that they typically will work, and only in some cases will the software version on the disk know, without connecting to the internet, that there are newer versions of your PS4 firmware. I'm betting this is a "you have to try and see" situation. That being said, these games often have very important Day 1 patches, so your experience could potentially be rather poor without them. TW3 especially had a LOT of quirks that were patched out over many patches - I don't know if your disc copy has those built in or not

I suppose you can download to a USB memory the latest firmware from PSN and transfer it to your console, as for the updates for the games I have no idea.

How about you google 5 seconds?

https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/ps4/

Update using a disc

Use an update file contained on a game disc to update the system.

Update using a disc

The following things are needed to perform the update:

  • PlayStation®4 system
  • A disc that contains an update file

When you play a disc that contains a later version of the system software, a screen is displayed to guide you through the update process. Follow the screens to perform the update.

The games will not have the firmware on them. They might not install or run if your firmware is not new enough for them. Just put the disc in and try it. If it works, then it works. If it doesn't, try the disc-based update ArchoNils pointed you to.

Yeah no-one cares or is going to read the crap links, everyone on this topic has posted suggestions but you fail to read/follow any of them, and then you continue to argue about it.

It is possible that a firmware update COULD be on a disk...but not likely. No one has run into an instance of this that I can find.

I don't see anything in that link that says the games are going to come with firmware updates on them. Like VGAmore said, it's possible that one could, but it's unlikely (why would the publisher make it their problem, instead of Sony's, to update your system?). It's all a moot point - your games will either work or they won't. Update now via the suggestions you have been given, or give the games a try first and see if they work. I'm willing to bet at least 9/10 will work without issue*

Just try it. Or try not. There is no fail. Or... something. Yoda said it, not me

*other than the fact that they will be missing out on their day 1 patches that seem to be the norm these days. But that's a separate issue.
