I have to pay sony 149 to fix my ps3!?!?!

so i got my ps3 at launch and its amazing but recently it stopped being able to read MGS4, and eventually the rest of my games! so i called sony and they said we can fix it for a charge of 149 bucks. This is ridiculous! I support ps3 from the begining and pay 599+tax and now have to pay another 149 bc the bluray diode cant read my disks! So thats a total of 650 + 150= 800 bucks for my ps3 that barely a year and a half old! Not to mention if I waited i could get a 40gig for 400! Im not happy! What can i do?

Apparently pay Sony.

Theres not really much to sugest; its broke, and only Sony can fix it... You have to remeber that the PS3 has a low failure rate so the gratantie isnt that long...gekidami

not much really, no one really does Blu-Ray repairs, since it is a new type of technology

all you can do is pay the bill really, but you might be lucky, in britain the bill is probably closer to 300$ (£150)

The 40GB console has had a lot more issues than any of the other models.

In fact, I think its the only one that actually breaks.

I feel your pain man. Had a power surge this weekend that cooked my power strip and 60 gig PS3 (but thankfully my TV was ok!). Called Sony and told them what happened, and the same thing happened to me, $149 to fix it even though I think it's only a $40 power supply. Theory: Sony lost TONS of money on the PS3 so far, so they're charging a fixed rate to repair anything wrong with out-of-warranty PS3's.

It sucks that it costs so much, but I'll pay it just because the system is worth it. I've had to go back to my regular DVD player and it's kind of pissing me off to see how crappy it looks on my 1080p screen. At least I have a PSP to tide me over for a couple weeks until it gets back.

I understand you pain very well. I also have a launch 60GB PS3 and few months ago my Blu-ray drive stopped working. I followed up with Sony and got my replacement in less then a week.

I had to pay 190$ (Tax included) since I lost my warranty papers during my move to a new apartment.

I don't see any issues here, it does hurt that blu-ray drive gave up, but there is nothing we can do about it. If I didn't lose my warranty it would not had cost anything.

So all I can suggest to you is to relax. That's how any hardware company's work, it's business politics and how world operates.

No hardware is 100% perfect, things happen in life. ;)

that sucks man, ur not at fault for sonys malfunctioning products, since the first psone theres always been issues with their consoles... i got the red ring of death for the 360 over a year later and they didnt have a problem taking it in and fixing it, a month later they send it back with a free 1 month xbox live membership... and as for nintendo well their product never really messes up... so dont listen to these hating sony fanboys and girls, just cuz they didnt dish out money for their consoles its easy for them to say for u to pay the 150 ... give them an arguement, it may work.djezhel619

Microsoft did it out of rage because of having so many issues with 360's RROD and MGS4 being such a success. They placed nanomachines on the bluray disc of MGS4 that ruin blu-ray players. The best part is it only works when you finish the game.

The OP just answered my question..lol..I just got RROD on my 2nd 360 and was really thinking about getting a PS3. I just dont know if I trust anyone out there to make a good console now days. Im a gamer through and through, but all this breaking down is just driving me away.

If you compare the 360 failure rate to the PS3 then you'll know that the PS3 is much much more reliable than the 360.
