I havent played any MGS game, Can I still play MGS4?

So i have completely missed the entire metal gear solid series and i think MGS4 looks awesome so i was just wondering if i still can play it and get involved in the story without having to play through the other games?

its really hard for me to say if u would be able to get into the story...i mean i dont really notice anything while im playing cause i already know the backstory and everything...im sure some things would be a little confusing...and u wouldnt get the old refrences to people and places...but i couldnt see u missing out on too much...but trust me when u play through mgs4 u will prolly go pick up MGS the essentials...in mgs1,2 and 3 all for $30 :D steve4200

Yeah, defo recomend this. I missed the orginal 2 games Metal Gear, and Metak Gear 2: Solid Snake, and MGS3, only playd MGS and MGS2.

I also read up on the stories of each game in chornological order on Wikipedia (around 5 times to properly understand it :P). Playing MGS4 now i am still getting all the jaw dropping twists, even thoiugh i missed more than 50% of the games.

but if you want my blunt honesty I found the cut-scenes far too boring and long ..

I like the story but the characters and script is sometimes unbearable...

Gameplay is short but near perfect

THATS because you didnt play the other games! I promise you if you had, you wouldnt have found them boring in the slightest! Though i do understand how not playing the others would result in you finding them boring.

maybe .. I still had the backdrop of the story, I wasnt confused in any way ..

just found the characters pretty empty
