This. I bought it last week and was immensely disappointed by it.

Really? I picked it up and so far so good imo.
What is the dead zone you guys are talking about?
A "dead zone" is the measure of how far you can move an analog stick without the game you are playing registering movement. With the DS3, the dead zones are very small, so almost the slightest movement is picked up. With the Power A, however, the dead zones are rather large, and you have to move the analog stick farther to register any movement at all. It's not a huge problem in some games, but it does slow you down, which can be a major hindrance in FPS games, particularly "twitch shooters" such as COD.
That's what I thought but in socom 4 there is no dead space at all.
But that's the only game I have tried so far.
