Your account should be fine as you can login from another PS3, although your hard drive/current gamesave data can only be accessed via the console used to create it. In short, if you've synched your trophies these will be safe although you may need to start your games from the beginning unless you get the console up and running again and back up the save data to a flash drive or via the online storage option using playstation plus. You then simply transfer the saves to a separate console. If you want to bring the console back to life google the hairdryer trick, reflowing and reballing (cheapest and most unreliable listed from left to right) - sony's brandname in addressing YLOD counts for very little unfortunately so give them a miss (and yes they will charge you for a refurbished replacement which are notoriously unreliable). Personally, I'd suggest a reputable re-baller or a new console if you can afford it ......

Your account will be fine as you can have it active on 2 systems now? they changed it from 5 so its either 2-3 idr. Id avoid buying a used or even investing in having sony fix it, since you wont get your system youll just get a "fixed" one. Id say to do the hairdryer trick as well as it at least can let you get your game saves, photos etc and you can deactivate your acct from that system. I did that with my ylod system it didnt last but maybe 2 hours but that was enough time for me to get my data. Id start looking at stores and see who has a good deal on buying a new ps3, its a step down going to a slim form an older fat but its better then wasting money on fixing a fat.

I contacted Sony Europe ("UK Resident") and they were very helpful. They offered me a PS3 Slim in exchange for my Dead YLOD PS3 40GB version and £110.00 Pounds. A deal worth taking so i took it. I now have a 120 GB or 110 cant remember PS3 slim on they way! Excellent.
