Well, I have a DS and i love it. But it is mainly for quick on the go play, and long sessions usually aren't meant for it. I am also sick of all of the kiddy and crappy show/movie licenced, bad graphics games. I want a system that has good long console-like games that can be played for long periods of time and can be easily transported. The psp fits the bill.

Question 1: What is the difference between the PSP reg. and PSP slim that makes the slim cheaper and which version is better in your opinion and why?

Question 2: I was wondering what color would be the best and why. (EX: the black shows fingerprints and scratches.) So which one would be best and why in your opinion? Question 3: Are there any necessary accessories I would need?

Question 1: What is the difference between the PSP reg. and PSP slim that makes the slim cheaper and which version is better in your opinion and why?

the psp slim can be plugged into a tv, is a lot lighter, and comes in a variety of colors. it can do anything a regular psp can, with a few more features. If i were to buy another psp right now I would probably go with a slim.

Question 2: I was wondering what color would be the best and why. (EX: the black shows fingerprints and scratches.) So which one would be best and why in your opinion?

I'd recommend a white one so fingerprints dont show up as well, and it just looks nice but that'll depend on your personal preference.

Question 3: Are there any necessary accessories I would need?

Once you get it you'll think of things that you will need, different people prefer different accessories. I'd recommend getting a psp headset with a mic if you plan on playing games online, because games like syphon filter and socom offer a voice chat online. Also I'd recommend a larger memory stick, but the size of that would depend on what you plan on using it for.

1. The slim is thinner and lighter. It also has more internal memory and a video out. The extra internal memory is supposed to make it quicker to load because you can do more preloading before you actually need it. Some other cosmetic changes but these are the important ones.

2. That's a personal choice. I've always preferred black myself.

3. Hard case is a must...although I don't think the slim has one that fits it yet. USB cable for transferring movies/music/pictures to the PSP. Memory stick for game saves (32mb is enough if that's all you'll do with it.....4GB are reasonable now and are great if you want the multimedia stuff). TV out cable if you want to watch on your TV.....don't think I'll get that myself.

Thanks guys! That helped a lot. Fynne, you said that u need a usb cable? can I just use a usb itself to transfer data, or does the psp not have a usb port? Also, the PSP slim is obviously going to be hard or impossible to downgrade, so without gtting into homebrew stuff which will lock the thread, what am I limited to multimedia wise? sorry if this is noob stuff lol.

The usb cable is just the normal usb on one end and the mini usb on the other end. these should be pretty common, and are not exclusive to the psp.

The slim is not hard to downgrade at all.

I would recommend getting a 2 or 4 gb memory stick.

Multimedia wise, the PSP reads mp3 and Sony's custom format for music. I think it can do wma too. As for pictures, it does jpg and gif (I think). Finally, for movies it only does mp4 but it does both flavors of mp4 (AVC and SP). Most movies don't come in this format so you have to convert them. PSP Video 9 is a good free encoder although the latest version is much less friendly (but more powerful) than it used to be.

The USB cable isn't special, as long as you have the mini connector on one end. If you have any Sony electronics you may already have the cable.

Is the PSP slim really that much lighter, like will you notice a BIG difference if you were holding the original and the slim?

1. It's lighter, it loads faster, has double the ram, has TV output, has USB charge mode. I belive the Slim is better for those reasons.
2.Ice Silver is the best in my opinion.
3. A carrying case wouldn't hurt. TV-OUTPUT cabels would be good too.

1 : The slim is a bit slimmer , its much liter and it has a TV output . It also has more RAm , that will be used for faster loadtimes in future games :)

2. I would say black ... or silver . Afther its scratched , the white PSP looses most of its shinyness , and thats ugly .

3. A 4 gig memory card , a screen protector and a hard case ... except that just save up for games :)

Well, I gotta say it again.

1. PSP Slim is the way to go since it's new and all the hardware specs. are on the advantage on the Slim plus it's lighter and slim. hahaha

2. I like black, so as with white and silver. It's your choice really. You could go pink or something if there is one for slim.

3. USB cable to connect into your PC. Headset w/ mic or just earphone whatever you prefer. A larger capacity Memory Stick Pro Duo. 4gb is a good choice now as it is quite cheap. Watch out for the fake ones. Not sure if 8gb is cheap but it's already available on the market. Some protective casing for your PSP or just pouch but i recommend a hard case. A screen protector.

No way dude~ the slim still feels as sturdy as the old one in my opinion. (although i wouldn't recommend

throwing it on the floor or trying to break it 8) )I personally thought that the fat DS felt a lot more cheap

and thus weak compared to the lite DS. (PSP is the best!)

1.- Diference, it is slimer and lighter, it has no infrared port anymore (nothing used it), speakers moved, D-pad works better (you can mark corners now), UMD door is kind of cheap now but meh.

2.- Any slim color is matte, so no more fingerprints, I like Ice silver

3.- You'll need a memory stick and a mini-usb cable, like the ones the cameras have

Q1: I think by now you've probably gotten your answer as to the differences but mainly smaller and lighter. Advertised as having faster load times but that's yet to be proven as a demonstrable difference. AV out is a plus if your interested in using it to play movies or games on your tv but then why buy a portable system. Redesigned keys and speaker positions are the big pluses in my eyes. Raised keys have a better tactile feel to them and the old speakers tend to get blocked by your fingers while playing the game.My opinion - get a used regular system and save yourself some money. Should be able to find one in the $100-130 range, use the money you save to buy a couple of games to get started.

Q2: Really a personal preference here. As pointed out by others black tends to show fingerprints and smudges but hey that's what they made cleaningclothes for. Only way to get other colors (silver / white) is in the bundles and again...why not save some money get the black and use the money you save to start your game collection. Also as pointed out by someone else...screen protector is a must. Cheap, easily replaced, and will save you from annoying marks and scratches that will detract from your enjoyment and fromresale value later.

Q3: Screen protector as mentioned, a good set of head phones, and a case would be my top picks. I have a soft sided case that I picked up for $7.99 that holds my PSP,7-14 games, and all my accessories. You definitely want a memory stick as well. I'd recommend 4GB as it's affordable and offers plenty of room for game saves, music, and videos. Only other thing you may want to consider as a necessity is a car charger and a USB cable for downloading content from your PC. You may be able to find the majority of these items bundled in a value or accessory pack from any retailer.

Hope this helps and congrats on your decision to get a PSP. You won't be disappointed.

You may still be able to find the Phat ones newat a GameStop/GameCrazy/Best Buy, may be a long shot though since they sell quick at least around here. Quite frankly if you buy one used at GS/GC/EB they are usually tested and havesome kind of warranty so I wouldn't be worried. If your gonna fork out the bux for a new one just get the Slim Core system....same price as the new Phat ones.
