Hell, you don't even need a top end PC to use the net. If net surfing is all you need it for, you could even use a Pentium 3 computer with a GForce 3 video card and 256Megs of RAM. The only difference is, you can update that. That would set you back maybe $150 for a tower like that.
PS3 has a lot of limitations with net surfing. A lot of web apps don't run (properly or at all) and it cannot be updated like a PC Web browser could. You'll have to wait till Sony decides to update it (when ever that may be).
If you want strictly net surfing, go with a cheap (by today's standards) PC and save a couple hundred bucks. A PS3 would be for games and other types of media.
if you do social sites like facebook, you will find the ps3 has limitations. and let's not get started with online banking and a host of other draw backs. casual surfing, email, it's ok. but like the guy who posted a reply first said, a gaming rig is gonna cost you. you may be better off buying the ps3 for gaming and a low end pc for web activities. the cost of the two combined would come up less than a gaming rig.sincgar1no it really wouldnt.

no? ps3 80gig $400. base line pc $400(includes 19" lcd) total $800... average price gaming rig is $1,500 ...(though i've seen them as low as $1,200), either way, still over $1,000...
