Your HDMI display will usually be a different AV channel from the standard composite (red, white, and yellow) cables.   Try using yor TV/AV or equivalent button to switch through different channels until you get to HDMI.   As long as you find it before the timer thing (30 seconds) runs out and switches back, it should be there.

Ouch.   I dunno how to fix that.   Try looking at the manual for the TV and see if there's anything unusual about using HDMI with it.   Also try googling for problems with your model of TV with HDMI devices.

You can try to reset your video output on your PS3. Turn your PS3 off and turn it back on with the power button (not using the controller) and hold it down and wait until you hear 2 beeps. See if that works.

I've had a similar problem before with my HDTV (Vizio)

I'd turn both the TV and the PS3 on but while I can clearly see the PS3 starting up, my TV gives me a blank black screen.

Pull the power plug on the TV (it's completely frozen...remote control and power button are ineffective) and plug it back in and voila! All fixed.

Happens roughly once every 5-6 months so I'm not terribly concerned. Not to mention I'm looking to upgrade from this budget TV set. :PÂ
