I still have the launch PS3, it is a 40gb hard drive. I need more space, but I don't know what type of hard drive I should be looking for. I know I want a 80gb hard drive, but when I search on ebay or amazon for an 80gb hard drive, it is just confusing. There are many different type of hard drives with different brands. What should I be looking for? I just want an 80gb Hard Drive to replace my 40gb launch PS3 hard drive. Thanks for the help.

You need a 2.5" SATA II HDD... if you only want an 80gb hdd that should be quite cheap to buy on ebay.

You will always pay more for a larger buffer cache eg 8mb cache and also for a higher rotation speeed eg 7200rpm ... lucky for you these are not absolutely necessary, just slightly dearer as it is faster.

I suggest you watch a youtube video on how to install the new HDD.... there are many examples of how to do so if you are unsure.

Goodluck !

I would say the same.

However, my suggestion would be to never buy a used hard drive. Only new, and also... 80Gb is close to nothing. My 80Gb phat is almost full now... I'm thinkng I want to go 500Gb for my next hard drive, they usually run about $40 on Newegg or TigerDirect but are more expensive on Amazon. Amazon hasn't had ANY deals on hard drives anytime recently.

I switched to a 500gb about a year ago and I'm just now at about 220gb's left, mainly because now I don't really delete anything I download. It's a nice feeling to just be able to rampage through the store and not have to worry about how much space everything is taking up.

80GB is pointless imo. I have a 120GB and it's nearly full. Games are going in the digital download direction so you don't want to be constantly checking your free space.

...as mentioned above i wouldnt recommend buying a refurbished or second hand HDD... they are quite delicate devices and you may be buying someone elses problems. Definitely get a new one and go for a bigger HDD than you think you need as it doesn't take too long to fill up even if you dont put music and pictures on it.
