if you can not figure it out and very people have suggested does not work, then you got 4 options,
1. work with your ispa . most of them have an average or better then average staff.
2. seek porfessional help, contact someone to look at it either geek squad or even then local kid at the game stop,
3. talk to your tech guat work, i am a it manager and i help people that work there for free or sometimes a fee.
well...okay...so your using your computer as a wireless router for the ps3...and your router is not wireless obviously lol. it might be the reason that the ps3 is not getting a direct internet connection cuz your running through two routers on a technicality not sure how it might affect it but it must in someway...and you could update your ps3 without the internet by downloading the file on a usb key and putting it in the ps3...CryoGoblin
Ok so here my situation I have a wifi NETGEAR USB adaptor hooked up to my computer, this wifi USB adaptor get its connection from the router in the office, in my house. Should I try to get the PS3 to signal to the router in the office, instead of the wifi USB adaptor. Should I also turn the wifi USB adaptor of while doing this.
Your Netgear USB adaptor is used to connect your PC to your wireless network. It does not create or extend your wireless network in any way so ignore it. It is your wireless router that creates the wireless network and that is what the PS3 must log onto to gain internet access.
You need to know how your network is obtaining IP addresses. If it is dynamic (your router assigns the IP address), then you set your PS3 to get IP address automatically. If the IP address is static (whoever set up the network said use a particular IP address), then you need to tell the PS3 what IP address to use. This will be an IP address that is not being used by any other device on your network but in the same range(i.e: if your PC is using 192.168.2.2 then use 192.168.2.3 as long as no other devices are on your network).
Your default gateway and DNS server should be the IP address of your router. This will also be the same IP address as the default gateway on your PC. For ****** routers, the default is 192.168.2.1 - if you post up what router you are using, then I'm sure someone will look up the default for you.
Your subnet mask will probably be 225.225.225.0.
As long as you have the correct encryption key (I typed mine in wrong when I set mine up and it took me a month to sort it out), and your PS3 is in the range of your wireless network, your PS3 should now be able to connect to the internet.
If you post the details of your router and maybe your PC's O/S, I might be able to help further, but not tonight...I'm gonna bed.
