OK, so recently Ive been having trouble with my ps3. whenever i quit a game, the screen goes completely black and no sound is able to be heard. it stays this way for a couple hours before you can turn it back on and see or hear anything again. I've checked all the connections, including my HDMI cable (Ive tried 3 others and still nothing happened), and i made sure everything is clean and connected properly. i don't get it. my dad, ya i no hes a nerd, plays too sometimes and he doesn't know what it is either. it is an old ps3; its from the first Christmas they came out, and its a 20GB, but i haven't had any problems with it until now. so if you have any helpful suggestions, please let me know. --- PSN-- pochatek2011 we'll play some COD4. add me up (if my screen isn't black)

some common questions here. is it well ventilated? on the back and on the sides? i've had my PS3 since 2 christmas's ago as well, & i am blessed it still works. *knocks on wood.* try leaving it off for awhile, could be an overheating issue. good luck.

hey ya thanks, ya i keep it off carpet, and i keep it in the open, so it's pretty well ventilated. and trust me i keep it off for some time. about 3 hours worth of time. still, just doesnt want to work, especially when i get a message from a friend and i want to respond and quit a game, it just says "are you sure you want to quit?" and i select yes, and bang. same goes for when i visit the ps store, and then try to play a game, it just turns off. i mean its still powered on, but no video signal is sent to the TV. so i dk.

hmm. well, couple days ago i read that you shouldn't turn your PS3 off too many times. shouldn't be something to worry about though, that usually only applies to faulty hardware, and considering how long your PS3 has lasted, i doubt the hardware is faulty. this is a shot in the dakr & i could be wrong, but maybe the cable connecting your PS3 to the TV, (the red, yellow & white cables), are faulty? try getting some new ones at gamestop. i hope everything turns out good for you

I don't know why people have problems with carpet and game consoles. My PS2 have been on the carpet for 5+ years and it's still going strong.

the PS2 is a lot less complex then the PS3. a lot less things happening inside. my friends PS2 still works.. he's had it since 6th grade, & he's going to be a senior. how i miss the good ol days when consoles were reliable
