Sorry, but I highly doubt it has anything to do with their firmware specifically. Perhaps some kind of hitch when you were downloading/installing the files caused it to go badly.raven_squad
unless the blu ray drive died the second the update installed then it maybe have been just a coincidence

i doubt it was the firmware. if it was lots more ppl would be experiencing this problem also ( for instance like the controller connecting to the ps3)

How do updates break PS3s? I have 4 different models and download every update and the systems work absolutely fine all the time. Maybe your internet didn't work properly while it was downloading? Like disconnecting and reconnecting while it was downloading and it fouled it up. Because PS3s are made to take updates not reject them and break the system.

I doubt it was because of the update.

It is entirely possible your Blu Ray drive died on it's own and coincidentally it occurred when you updated your console. I had a hard drive and video card both go bad at the same time as I was flashing my BIOS on my PC. I thought I had ruined my motherboard, but it turned out I had both a faulty HDD and video card... It happens.cametall
Maybe something happened to your ps3 while downloading that was your fault?

lol since when do a lot of people break their PS3 because 3.10 update? nice try to spead out false information.

This belongs in your BLOG. You're not even creating conversation. Besides, no firmware update could ever effect your disc drive. Your PS3 died, and it just so happens it was around the same time as the update.

There's always 1.. or in this case 10. Just because 999 people have a problem, but 1 person doesn't Does Not mean it doesn't it exist, it just means the probablity for the average person is less than 1%, not 0. In this case with technology, it's hard to discern the exact problem unless someone spent time researching and discovering the problem. Sony has and stated FW is not the issue *cough Yeak ok wink wink*. In my case, I was playing Heavenly Sword for a frew hours, but after it kept freezing I decided to update to 3.00 and low and behold it stop reading discs. Now I will not say the firmware directly destroyed my PS3, but I am positive it played a role in the process. Coincidence? Don't make me laugh..
Me personally, I'm waiting it out with my PS2 hoping something changes down the road. In a year or so, I'll probably pay the repair fees or just purchase a new slim. ps the Sale and Goods Act only applies to the UK, so us US folks are sol
