i think i game too much... i play around 2-4hours probably daily maybe more definately seems like more...and for some odd reason lately i am having the urge to want to buy everything!...haven't done that but whenever i go shopping/out or pass by a gaming store i'm like "lets have a look", then somehow have to pull myself away from buying.

the issue is not money i could probably buy all the games i want but im trying to control myself...sorta wish i had a job as a gaming journalist though ( the types who get to go to all the conferences etc.)

anyhow i've got some weird urge to want to buy DS1 again Test Drive 2 and LBP2...thats even when i'm halfway playing through Dead space 2, mass effect 2, gran turismo 5 and im still knocking in some pretty decent hours in MW2 (gave back black ops didnt like it) top that off with im definately getting crysis 2 ... seems like i got issues.

just for reference i want to know how much gaming other people do?...hours spent daily/weekly and do you guys buy games for the heck of it i.e dont even play them because you got too many others to play.

I could play 5 hours of gaming in a single day but I could also go a couple weeks without playing any games. Right now, I am playing GOW 3 right now a lot. I bought it before xmas and just started playing it this week and I have to say it is probably my favorite PS3 game. Toss up between Uncharted 2 and GOW 3. I bought a lot of games around xmas and black friday because of the b2g1 free deals and other great deals so I have a few games that I didn't even try yet. I am a "1 game at a time player". I can't play like 3 different games around the same time.

There's nothing wrong with having a hobby.

I game probably 1-2 hrs a day when I have the time. IF, however, I had unlimited time/money I would probably game 6-7 hours daily haha.

first how old are you? and what things in life do you have going on, wife, kids etc.

I know when it was just me and my wife and SOCOM first came out i would come home from work and easily put in 5hrs a day in that MP and i did that for months. Now however with a kid and more going on i can put in 1-2hrs a day if i really wanted but usually i only do that a couple days a week and then sometimesa good 3-4 hr session on the weekends. Nothing wrong with gaming if thats what you love to do, as long as you are not selling crack or on the corner to help pay for your gaming habit i would say your not an addict or if games become more important than food at some point or neccesity items then you are ok.

2-3 hours per day here. I also have a wife, a 6 month old, a full time job, and I am a part time student. My plate is full, but I love to game. It keeps me out of trouble so I make time for it everyday. I also bodybuild so I weight train 5 times per week as well. When I write all of this down, it impresses me and depresses me lol. Growing up and being an adult is lame. :P

I miss the days of playing Donkey Kong country and Super Mario World all summer and on the weekends...

'Course I do have more money to support the hobby now, though. No more saving pennies in a jar :P

Yeah, back in the day I could play games all day, but my selection was limited to the best of the best because I either saved my allowance for a month or two to get a game or it was a gift. I must have put over 250 hours into each of the SNES games you listed and I would always want other games to play. Now I can afford any games I want, but I pick carefully because my time is limited. Most of the games I buy now are lucky to be in a console for 15+ hours because I don't want to miss out on any games or get backlogged too far. The only games that get extensive playtime are multiplayer shooters and the occasional RPG. What a vicious cycle.

Growing up and being an adult is lame. :PSNESMaster420

I agree and disagree.

I am 36 and I have been playing video games since the Pong in the late 1970's, and I play video games everyday for atleast 2 - 8 hours a day as it depends if I am working that day or if I am off. So I will be playing video games until I die.

I'm lucky to get 1-2 hours a day. I would definitely play more if I had the time. As for game purchases...I have at least 25 games in my back catalog.

I play everyday, I think the most I can spare is about 6 hours at a time, but that doesn't happen that often anymore. I work, have a dog, girlfriend, friends and play in a busy hustling touring band. The only time I don't play is when I am on tour. If you think you have a problem then maybe chillax on how often you're reading gamestop or visiting gaming forums. Then you are constantly being exposed to new stuff. Hell I think I'm more addicted to collecting and trying games and systems then I am just gaming.gah. As long as other aspects of your life are not suffering then you're fine. If your meed is good and you're happy then ultimately you are not dependent on gaming and being happy no matter what age you are is the answer to life.

lol...some of the comments are interesting here...i am relatively a free person these days as in no more studying etc.... i haven't got no wife or kids to hold me down either but i always seem to be online these days compared to all my friends who are in similar situations...yeah i consider gaming as one of my favourite hobbies been doing it since years back the nes and atari days (im in my early 20's by the way not that old! hehe!)..and i guess ill probably continue it while im growing... i find more adults get into gaming these days as the tech seems so cool and more adult orientated games.

If Playing videogames causes you to miss work or school. You can't play rent other bills etc. Then gaming could be a problem in your life.

However if you just think that you play videogames too much then do something else for a while. Go swiming, Work out, go to a movie, Go for a run. Just do something different.

i'm 32 and have been playing video games every day since I was 4. there's nothing wrong with that IMO. I make time for it everyday. Some times it's as little as an hour sometimes i'm playing for 8 hours or more. There's nothing wrong with having hobbies.

It is only an addiction if it is harmful to you in some way. If it is interfering with your life in a negative way, then yeah, it is a problem. But from what you said it doesn't sound like it is. It sounds more like you are just worried about the amount of time you play, which isn't even that much, comparatively.

How many people do you know that watch 2-4 hours of TV a day, or read for extended periods of time? Gaming is just another form of entertainment. A few hours a day isn't inherently bad, as long as it isn't interfering with your life.

My gaming habits are sporadic. If I have a day off I can sit down and play for 8 hours. But if I am particularly busy there are months at a time where I don't play at all. I actually try to just sit down and game for 1 hour each night (more if I can), because it is one of the few ways I can actually relax. And I am also guilty of buying games even though I know I won't be able to play them for quite some time. There are several sealed games sitting on my shelf (stupid sales!).

I'm a "binge" gamer. Sometimes I'll go a week without playing anything. And then sometimes I'll play a single game for 16 hours a day for a couple of days.

I don't think you have a gaming addiction unless it is getting in the way of your values. I myself work, am finishing graduate school, and raising a family of three children. I find some time despite that and game 5-8 hours a week average.

If you're not taking care of your responsibilities or yourself then the gaming could be a problem. I just got married in September and I have a job that takes up most of my time. I've also made a rule that if I have to go to work, no video games at all unless I have a 1st shift then I can game when I get home. I also make sure that all my animals are fed and taken care of as well.

I'm married and work full time. I buy about one game a month. More if there are good releases. I bought six games at Xmas. Good deals! :) I probably play 1-3 hours a day, 3-6 on weekend days. It's my relaxing, down time. Husbands plays guitars when I'm usually playing. Same room, good accompanying music. All good!

Going to college, have a gf, a job, and I still find the time to play at least 4 hours every day.

Some people play football or golf to relax, I play videogames, and if that is something that makes you happy or relaxes you, then you shouldn't feel bad about it :)

Probably something you'll grow out of.

I used to buy most new releases every week and I'd play for more than 3 hours a day, everyday. Now that I've finished College and am in the routine of the average adult who's in work I simply can't be bothered to play games. I bought Killzone 3 earlier today and it's still in the plastic wrap because I just can't be bothered to play it, and I've still got UC2, Fallout: NV and a few side missions in Ass-Creed Brotherhood to finish - not to mention working my way through Fifa Manager mode.

I don't even play at normal times anymore. I was playing Fifa at 4:30am today while I had a half hour to spare before work, and yet come 5pm I don't want to play games  .

Once you get more responsibilities in your life like a job or perhaps a partner you'll find you spend less and less time gaming.

I would say you have a robust hobby...unless you prefer gaming to your real life. Being a gamer myself I have witnessed many tradeoffs by getting older. I no longer have to really save and worry about what games I can afford but I don't have the time to complete all the games I would like to...

if you think you game too much, then you probably do. it's like a "huge" person asking himself if he's eating too much, when there is a solid evidence right under his nose that he's probably right.

I worry about that too. I'm 38, have 4 kids and a wife who all game as well plus a full time job. Gaming though is my main hobby and I almost always make time for it each and every day. Can be as little as an hour or as much as 6 hours but on average is probably around 3. So 20+ hours a week.

My main problem is I can't stop buying games and have a huge backlog. Both my PS3 and Xbox have many games that I have barely started ( in some cases haven't started ) and I keep buying new ones! Just today I pre-ordered MotoGP 10/11 and MotorStorm Apocalypse both due out on the same day. Had to refrain from ordering the new Top Spin game as well also due the same day!!

For me it depends... I am a student and when my lady is gone to class and I am not at class or volunteering, I will play for an hour or two, but when I go back home for the break I play maybe an hour in 10 days (my current home visit last week)... but I picked up dead space 2 and yesterday night I played it for 3 hours on the compaign.

Gaming is a good past-time/hobby, so don't worry. If tou start skipping work to play games, maybe you have a problem. lol

seriously after reading the comments here it don't seem too bad to me but i gotta ask for those of you who are married, don't your wives get annoyed (i say wives because im assuming most men would be ok with gaming)?!... i always assumed when i get married the misses would probably throw out my consoles, either that or you lot are amazingly lucky to have partners that enjoy your hobby with you. i can get away with playing the kiddy type games like LBP or the Move games with the women in my family, but hard core games like DS2 would be problematic.

my gf personally hates game... expecially shooters since she doesn't see the put in them, which in a sense I agree, I don't play shooters that much, only survival horrors are my thing. Also, she will play mario, tetris, and other old school games and the occasional trivia game like "you dont know jack" and some DDR.

If you're only playing 2-4 hours a day I don't think your an addict lol. Wanting to buy every cool new game you see if perfectly normal too. I play at least 2 hours a day and I've got quite a backlog of half finished / never-started-on games. I'll get to them eventually, after I get done with the next two or three games that are coming out that I'm really excited about

I play at least 3 to 4 hours each day. It's just having a hobby, but my parents can't seem to understand that. I'm the same too, theres so many games out I want to buy now, Crysis 2, Bulletstorm, Pokemon White, Homefront, The 3DS, Pre-Order Skyrim. I'm 14 however and I don't have the money.

I believe the original implication wasn't that video games are for kids but that, as an adult, gamers generally have more responsibilites and less time for their hobby than they did when they were younger. Many, like me, miss that extra time we once had to invest in our hobby.

Therefore, for some, growing up is lame.

I used to game a lot too. Now not as much anymore due to less time and browsing the internet more lol. But if I had more time again and browsed less on the internet I would probably be gaming as much as I used to, which was hours a day, sometimes even the moment I woke up till the moment I went to bed. xD

seriously after reading the comments here it don't seem too bad to me but i gotta ask for those of you who are married, don't your wives get annoyed (i say wives because im assuming most men would be ok with gaming)?!... i always assumed when i get married the misses would probably throw out my consoles, either that or you lot are amazingly lucky to have partners that enjoy your hobby with you. i can get away with playing the kiddy type games like LBP or the Move games with the women in my family, but hard core games like DS2 would be problematic.asz_2

@asz_2 - I think I'm lucky as my wife enjoys gaming almost as much as me :) also she will try anything....she completed Gears of War 2 with out eldest, Lego Harry Potter twice, once on her own and once with the younges, loves Prof Layton and the list goes on :)

If that's addicted then I'm much worse.

First, I have a 360, a PS3 and a Wii. Plus I just got a new PC, which I plan to game on.

My backlog right now is near 9 games, including games like RDR and U2 (yes, I have yet to experience that glory, and I thought the first was AMAZING).

Not only do I get the urge to buy games when I see a store, I get them every time I see a new game release, a flyer with deals on games, even looking at XBLA.

Maybe We're all addicted and need serious help...

Will I be able to take a 3DS to rehab? =D

I sometimes have dreams that include some of the recent games i've been playing so i too think i play too often and may have a problem.

I only manage 2 hours a day but could always do with more. Maybe someone could buy me a PSP so i can carry on gaming when not at home?
