we all think so
but sony still has PS2s on the shelves
and any emultation would be a little dodgy they'd probably have to patch up the games so they could work
but imo that still be better than nothing
They should have never removed the E.E chip that allowed the Ps3 to perfectly run PS2 games :?, but well, they wanted to push Ps3 software sales.
No I will not use a PS2! I object to that idea! I would rather play ps2 games on my ps3 because the official controller is wireless and you have practically infinite space for saving games with the saving utility and the PS3 controller is just better end of :) mine is the Dualshock 3 :D
I'm sorry but probably everyone who owns a Non-backwards compatible PS3 makes a topic/says this. I'm pretty sure Sony doesn't care right now and they are focusing on newer games and/or making HD-versions of those games e.g Sly collection, god of war collection.
I would imagine that they'll eventually add software emulation for PS2 games once they stop supporting the PS2 itself, but that's likely to be quite some time yet. PS2 systems are still selling quite well and there are still new titles being released for it.

Not me, I have PS1 and PS2 games, and im happy that they removed backward compatibality. It must have stopped or stalled something, its like they removed the original xbox network, because it stopped a fundamental expansion of the current service.
It must have stopped expansion of the PS3 somehow. Sony just need to add PS2 and PS1 games to PSN Store.
its never gonna happen. the ppl that keep makin' these topics crying about it need to suck it up and just buy yourself's a new / used ps2 if you really want to play ps2 games that bad.LP4EVA2005did you even read my previous post?! I'm assuming you didn't but I've ALREADY explained why I would rather play PS2 games on PS3. And 'crying'? I aint the one crying that sounds more like you
Hmm so it seems if you're really desperate for PS2 compatibility in your PS3 you'll have to go huntin' for the 60GB model on ebay or something I know they have over the other ps3 models: 1. 4 USB ports 2. Flash memory slots 3. PS2 B/C But if you want a bigger hard drive obviously you'd have to upgrade that :/UltimateRAGEX
no that will YLOD

Where have you been in last 10 years. :)
I hardly believe there is need for B/C at this point of PS3 life cycle. There are so many fantastic games that I wouldn't even find time to play old PS2 games.
Not that I would mind the B/C. After all I do have 60GB PS3 as well as PS3 Slim and in all reality I don't play any PS2 games anymore. Well, maybe once in a while I'll pop in Kingdom Hearts. ;)

For the last 10 years?? PS3's been out for 3 and I have actually played the hell out of my PS2 for years but I have since my given that to my nephew and as I stated in one my previous posts ^ up there (that's if you have topics By First Post, Newest First) why I would rather play PS2 games on my PS3.Not only do you get to use a wireless 'official' controller which is better than all third party wireless PS2 controllers, but you get limitless save file space for PS2 and PS1 games, you also get the convenience of just having your ps3 and not needing to have a ps2 wasting space if it had Backwards Compatibility. Do you see what I'm gettin at? THREE very good reasons to have a PS3 with B/C then just using PS2.

uh i did read your previous post, and all you said was you "object to the idea of getting a ps2 to play your games". thats not even a slightly reasonable answer. Sooo my reply still stands: stop crying over it kid and just buy yourslef a ps2 if you really want to play games. ;)
This is where people that wanted BC support and willing to spend the money in the beginning are happy with there purchase. I have a 60 gig with full BC hardware support and never had a single problem even after running it 24/7 for just about as long as I've owned the system. The YLOD doesn't really effect only the 60 gig system, all PS3's can have a hardware failure (slims seem to be failing at a higher rate than the old 60 gig systems at a much earlier time of it's life).jimm895true, unless you are unfortunate enough to have it break after three years of pretty constant use, which is not only possible, but likely given the fail rate of today's technology over time. When my original 60gig BC broke, they were no longer making them, and I had to swap it out for a new 160 non BC, which sucks for those of us who had that experience

People's biggest complaint was the price of the PS3, they removed the extra hardware and dropped the price.[QUOTE="Sokol4ever"]

Yeah we would all like to have our PS3s BC kid. I'm going to keep calling you kid, when one makes pointless topics like this...like a kidYeah I would rather not unplug my PS3 just to play my old PS2 games. It's not laziness, just efficiency. Besides they have emulation compatibility and a software update for two versions of the older PS3's. Corperate BS aside, just update the firmware retards!
as everyone else has said we all want this and this is an oooooold topic. If you look at the Xbox 360's B/C though it rarely worked very well and for the titles it did they are now on XBL marketplace for a few bucks anyway. The ps2 is getting old, it hasnt had any major releases arguably since God of War 2, mine is shelved and wont be played until I finally get the itch to go back and play some old final fantasy's and maybe the kingdom hearts games to get ready for the new PSP one. Sony probably will start rereleasing some of those games on PSN, which I know sucks for everyone that has already paid good money for them, but for those that havnt it is a legit way to play some of the old classics.
Sony will never do it cos they are most likely gonna be selling PS2 games to download from Playstation store in near future+just think of the £s/$s they will make?I have the PS3 slim and I would like to play my PS2 games on it as well! But unfornately PS2 games are not compatible.

I would not recommend this at ALL - I went this route, ebay is flooded with recently fixed and ticking time bomb YLOD 80 GB models. I got stuck with one of these and the company that fixed it said that was a very common occurrence (not to mention it lasts for less and less time the more it's repaired before it has to be repaired again).
It's not ideal at ALL, but I'd suggest just buying a Slim and a Slim PS2 if you're really desperate to play PS2 games - both new. I can't trust used consoles anymore, call me a cynic but I many others I know have gotten burned big time when buying used.
Believe me, if anyone is at the front of the fight to get Sony to add BC to the slim, it's me.
Ya know everywhere you look the debat on B/C is an ongoing run, it seems that Sony would be unwise to ignore the cries of those it serves after all the PS2 and PS1 have both been iconic in their own right.
However it seems that B/C is indeed an ongoing issue and once the PS2 shelf life expires then we'd be more likely to get our way? Thougn it has been confirmed that in late 2008 Sony filed a patent fora PS" Emulator? To be honest the B/C is what held me off buying my PS3 in the first place having a dozen or so PS2 games to get done before I moved on.
Now having bought my PS3 I wonder how I survived without it hahaha.
From what I can glean from vaious sites the PS2 emulator will but a command code library essentially slowing down the PS3's processor to at least replicate the PS2's chipset. Not the best way but over time it will essentially "learn" to emulte more accurately. Also after the Linux systemwas scrapped by Sony the Sony Linux team was assigned to a "special project" which most believe is perfecting this so called command code emulator.
Also seen hints they plan to release PS2 titles on the PSN next year and so therefore the PS" emultor would be needed much like the PS1 is for the PS1 titles.
We need B/C we demand it Sony would be daft to ignore it no?
