Well, I play about once or twice a week, and I'm ranked around 90,000... so there are at least about 89,999 people that play 1-2 times a week. I would say that's a pretty good sized community.
As far as I know, the previous posters are incorrect. The Warhawk servers only allow the size if the room that your connection can support. For instance, I can only play in rooms that have 25 players, and I can only create a 25 or below sized room.
