Just bought a HDMI cable to test 1080p for games and DVD upscaling, my understanding is DVD upscaling will not work on DVDs over component, unless the DVD has no Copyright Flag.
So your home made DVDs might upscale via Component.
Dont quote me on that though.

KILLERJAK edited his text, he made a mistake on his post and edited it, Blu-Ray works at 1080i via Component.

[QUOTE="KILLERJAK702KA"]HDMI is required for Blu-ray and DVD movies for games Component is ok for ps1,ps2 games.GARRYTHso when i watch my blu-ray movie im not watching it in 1080i (highest my tv goes) im watching it in 480p. that would suck. From my understanding and what i have read at 1080i your able to view blu-ray threw component cables but if you want 1080p you will need HDMI and in the future if they become strict it might require HDMI cause of there protection but no worries for you it will be like 2-3 years till that gos in effect and by then HDTVs with HDMI will be the standard and they will be supper cheap! so dont worry ^.^

HDMI is not required to watch in 1080p
there are a few TVs out there that do 1080p via component, not many but there are some
but if you only have 1080i then component is for you :D
but does dvd upscale work though component to 1080i like blu-ray. thanks for the blu-ray reply. im not worried about that copyright thing that will happen in 2-3 years because i do have a dvi so soon i will get a convert wire. does hdmi when i do get it can it be 1080i or t just 1080p. thanks guys i now this has been talk to death but i guess im to lazy to look it up.
Thats a Tricky question knowing DVI and HDMI are about the same im sure you can upscale DVDS but im not 100% sure so your gonna get HDMI to DVI im sure you can if you do get it try it out but someone correct me if im wrong.but does dvd upscale work though component to 1080i like blu-ray. thanks for the blu-ray reply. im not worried about that copyright thing that will happen in 2-3 years because i do have a dvi so soon i will get a convert wire. does hdmi when i do get it can it be 1080i or t just 1080p. thanks guys i now this has been talk to death but i guess im to lazy to look it up.
