I am looking for a PlayStation 3 headset since I am starting to feel the need for one the more I play Battlefield: Bad Company. The thing is, I know little about headsets for the PlayStation 3 and there seem to be many options. I am not too keen on buying one of those headsets that transcend £50 so does anybody have any suggestions on great value for money? Preferably below £30?

i have ps3 offical headset, yeah it's very good. a lot of ppl use 3rd party headset, but they arent as good as PS3's. You can haer a lot of noise fromsome of 3rd party headest. However, PS3 headset is quite pricy. I wouldnt recommend it unless you are going to be a heavy headset user. Otherwise just buy a 3rd party headset.

I wear a headset primarily for the immersion but have found the need to speak to people now and again. The PlayStation 3 doesn't have a microphone jack, however, and the Sony wireless headset only covers one ear. I am looking for something like this although I am not sure that what I linked to is compatible with the PlayStation 3.

The headset doesn't necessarily have to be designed for PS3. I use a motorola bluetooth headset that came with a phone. Works just fine.

Ihave the officcial PS3 headset - I honestly don't like it that much. It works ok, but I got spoiled with the Turtle Beach head set I have for my Xbox 360 - those sound awesome and are perfect for late night gaming as you can turn the tv all the way down, and still hear the game sounds & chat thru the headset. An the game sound is incredible !!!! The Turtle Beach set I have are wireless, so I want to find if possible a wireless set for my PS3 as well.

But all in all - the official PS3 headset isn't that bad, works fine for now until I can upgrade.

Get it, it's worth it.

I think they might get a bit cheaper now, seeing how my brother randomly got it for 25 dollars.

So can anyone recommend a headset (wireless if possible) in my price range which covers both ears and allows for great immersion?

Oh sorry I am an idiot, I didnt see your price range. Yea they are expensive but I used mine mainly for ventrillo at the time and I figured it would be the best, plus its noise cancelling etc etc.

I have taken a look around and found that this headset seems to be above all others for its price. Nevertheless, with regard to the PlayStation 3, it only works as a microphone since game sounds aren't transmitted through the headphones apparently. Does that make sense to anyone?

I'm pretty sure that the game's audio can be transmitted only through the TV or sound system attached to the PS3 although I may be wrong. However, I know that you can toggle whether you want to hear other people on mics through the headset or through your TV / sound system.

But why not the game sounds too? It seems totally redundant to get that headset if it doesn't play the game sounds as well. I currently have a great headset that requires a headphone jack and a microphone jack. My TV has a headphone jack but no microphone jack. My PS3 has neither. If I want to talk to people as well, I will need to get a headset that only transmits my voice to them while the actually game sounds continue to come from my TV or I could get one of those mobile phone headsets which wouldn't be very immersive.

The only headset/headphone combo that will really work well with the PS3 will have a optical input or RCA (red/white) connection for game sound and a USB connection for voice/chat. They cost a good bit more than the PS3 headset.

I know you've said you don't want the Official Sony PS3 Headset but I highly recommend it, it's easy enough to wear and it's a steal at 25 pounds. It might not be what your after, but it is the best option for the price range IMO, the speaker and the mic are both very clear and work well. It'll do you as a stop-gap before you can upgrade to a pricey full-headset. :)

the official sony headset is GARBAGE! i had to trade it in after just a few days because even with the settings fully cranked it could barely pick up my voice unless i started yelling, and i'm definitely not softspoken. nobody could hear me online. it sucks.

the logitech cordless vantage headset for PS3 is by far the best i've ever used on the PS3. (i've tried several in my quest to find the perfect one). this beats them all, hands down.
