As long as you put it on a hard surface and whatever you dodon't put it on a carpet like someone had done in another thread and give it plenty of air circulation it shouldn't overheat.

Very few people have reported about overheating problems (Info taken from my Shop).People have called in and reported about the loud vent (this "problem" occurred in Europe), though it was mostly people that had their PS3 in a very closed environment. The people that did have the vent problem got their PS3 switched for a new one at my Shop.

You get 1 year warranty (at sony) when you purchase the PS3.

It never overheats as long as it has space to breath. The cooling system that Sony uses is very reliable and efficent.

Why is putting a console bad? I put my PS2 on the carpet while playing GTA and it froze, I didn't have any ideas why it did that.

There is athread in this forum called ''OK to use a ps3 on carpet'' Read that and you'll see there are several explanations why it can damage any console. My personal experience with this is also on that thread when I had my ps2 for years on a stand but when I put it on a carpet it broke in about a month.

It will not overheat. Just make sure that it is not right up against a wall so the air could circulate.

Ive had no problems at all. Just as long as you keep it in a place where there is enough room for it to vent, it should be good. Otherwise if you have no other doubts, get the ps3....its a great system

Yeah it could suck in dust from the carpet I guess. Since I dont read those Harry Potter books I have, I put the newer green one (Half Blood Prince, I think) under my PS3 so it isnt on the carpet. So I put the book to good use. :)

one time i was playing oblivion and i fell asleep... i slept for a good 12 hours, woke up, and popped in RFOM and continued playing with no problems... To be honest i have been through 3 Wii's, All of which had the same bloody problem... The disc drive is just a POS... And i am still on my first PS3. Sony really learned this time around. but thats not to say its impossible to have any problems, I have just been lucky with Sony.

Haven't had a single problem with mine and I got mine at launch. No overheating. No loud fan noise. No freezing. And its in a fairly well vented AV center. My PVR makes way more noise. Like someone else stated in here....an absolute beast!
