I was in EB Games and overheard an old man talking enthusiastically about FF

He was talking to the employee about final fantasy and he actually knew what he was talking about, he talked of a few other games too, killzone, vanquish and he musta been at least 55 or maybe older. it just made me smile, i thought it was so surreal, if anything at that age i would think a gamer that old would only care about atari or arcade classics.

here i was thinking how weird it was too see a gamer that old enthusiastic about oldies and modern games, then i realize that me (23) and my generation, once we get to old age we'll all probably be playing games the way we still do now, it will become a much more widespread norm for grannies to be gaming during their retirement. ha

random topic for ps3 board ha! anyway I can see myself being that old man when I'm (much, much!) older. My grandfather is in his 80/90s and got a computer about 5 years ago, first game he played was quake a couple years later ha

I am 23 also man. I remember going to supper at one of my parents friend's houses when I was 13.The wife there who was 40+ yrs oldhad a fat stack of PSone RPG's, as well as Silent Hill and the Resident Evil Trilogy. She had all of the best RPG's and even some of the more obscure ones. I was so impressed. I have been gaming heavily and following most news since I was about 8-10 yrs old so we had some awesome conversations that night. I will remember that lady forever merely because of her awesome game collection. She also had an N64 which she said was a dissapointing purchase, but that she had to play Zelda, lol. I believe this was right on the verge of the PS2 coming out and she told me that she had one on reserve and had been chomping at the bit to get it. Thanks for bringing up a good memory of mine my man.

You have to remember that the people who were kids when Space Invaders came out are in the mid forties now.

One day, when you're old and grey, young people will look at you with a smile when you talk about the games you used to play on your PS3...

Doesn't surprise me at all. Anyone who thoroughly enjoyed gaming, despite which generation they started, is more likely than not still playing today. My earliest gaming memory is of playing the Pac-Man cocktail table at a local pizzeria. Been hooked ever since! :D

Talk is cheap. I wanna see some game saves or trophies because people are known to be collectors. (ebay anyone?)

I'd love to be a 50+ gamer but don't want to be a 50+ gamer going on a rant with kids at a Gamestop.

as much as i love gaming and having been hooked to this hobby for over a decade, i don't see myself doing it all my life...... already my girlfriend is reminding me how i should've grown out of it and picked up something constructive. i'll see how it goes. but what matters is right now i'm still having fun. :)

How old do you think developers, programmers, artists etc. that go into making a video game are? Heck Shigeru Miyamoto is almost 60 years old and you can bet he loves gaming than the majority of his customers!

I'm not surprized than an old fellow has passion for gaming because, to me, its not something that has an experation date. Music doesn't, movies don't, why would gaming?

I think the game stereotype of being a toy is quickly dissapearing as more and more people are playing games, be it on their ipod, cellphone, computer, or console. Its not justfor kids in their mother's basement anymore, its for girls, boys, moms, dads, young.....and old too.

Heavy sigh. Why do young people still think video game were invented for them? I have been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

I'm 20 and work at a game store, there's 2 or 3 regulars who are up there, but honestly i don't think i've ever met someone over 40 who still actively games (aside from wii, but that doesn't really count) I can see myself being like that in 30 or 40 years, if my kids can ever beat me at SSBMelee i'll buy them anything they want :P also, I'm from Canada too!

I hate that "grown out of it" crap.. I mean by that logic the only movies elderly people should see are XXX rated.

well.... not trying to beat down on the folks, but it's probably got a little something to do with the fact that none of the more successful of my peers play video games. i get the idea. just because i enjoy having fun doesn't mean i'm detached from reality. of course, i'm just telling my side of the story. you don't have to agree.

I remember a few years ago at a local Game Crazy a guy (about 45-50) walked in wanting to buy Oblivion GOTYE because he wanted the DLC because he beat it and did not have his system connected to the internet.

Maybe you're just a bad judge of age? I can't imagine anyone that old being interested in current games... I'm in my 20s and already feel alienated by today's stuff!

Holy badarse, Batman!

Back on topic-

Yeah, the same thing happened to me a while ago, except with Dragon Quest. I went up to ask the guy at the counter if they had any copied of DQ8, and then I got several people, from twenty-something to forty-something, commenting on how many hours they put into the game. It was a pretty cool experience.

I'll definitely be one of those people later on in life.

I'm in the same boat dude. I just turned 26 yesterday, and I haven't felt any urge to play anything lately. If this pattern continues, I might call it quits by 30 :P I am waiting on serveral titles, but even still, I usually end up buying maybe 3 games a year cuz very few games interest me.
