I will consider buying a PS3 when....

This is for all the people who have not bought a ps3 yet. I had a PS1 and PS2 last gen and was planning to get a PS3 until i saw the fabled E3 conference when they announced the price of the PS3, my jaw dropped and i knew my exclusivity to the playstation was over.

So now i am at a suitutation where the PS3 has been out for a year, had 2 significant price drops and it still is not enough for me to consider buying one. So for me Sony needs to do the following things...

1. Release great games dammit! I do not want to see hour long FMV's to try and justify blue-ray when it is not needed (more on this later). Plus i want to see new great blockbuster i.ps and sony not to solely rely on rehashes of other series.

2. The price on the higher models goes down further. Its really this simple, it is still to expensive for a device that plays games. I do not want to spend of what i consider a lot of money on something that is not the best version of the product.

3. Backwards compatibility so i can play my PS2 games. Now if Sony had included this in the 40 GB version of the PS3 then maybe it would be a viable choice but until i get BC emulation on a PS3 like i can on my 360, no sale.

4. Better online service. Yeah its free, but it sucks. If they introduced a small fee for PSN but dramatically improved the service i would be all for it.

5. Better games.... oh i've already mentioned that. But its a pretty important one ;)

6. The pointlessness of blu-ray for this gen. What is the point of blu-ray in GAMES this gen? The answer - nothing really. It just lets them add longer, dull FMV's to their games. Of course it can be benefical to memory space heavy stuff like audio but the audio is pretty good on my 360 so i really have nothing to complain about. I understand Sony is trying to win a format war currently but honestly just look at blu-ray sales then look at DVD sales - not many people care about HD media right now and i can't say i do either.

Blu-ray drives up the cost of PS3 a lot and it annoys me.

7. Less BS from Sony. Please.

Don't get me wrong i don't think i am a PS3 'hater' i think the PS3 has done some good things this time a round, but they just have done more things wrong and have alienated gamers like me who just want to have a good time playing games and on't really care about the ins and outs of the consoles.

So for the people who are yet to purchase a PS3, what does Sony need to do for you to get you to thnk about buying one??

While it's understandable that not all gamers will care for everything the PS3 offers, like the Blu-ray player (extremely expensive), built-in WiFi, a standard hard drive, wireless motion sensing controller with rechargeable battery and cable, Bluetooth, HDMI out, free online, web browser, etc, to say the PS3 is overpriced is horrendously incorrect. Looking at the whole PS3 package it's an incredible value. Sure it adds a few things that maybe don't interest you, but as a whole the PS3 is, in my opinion, the best value system on the market.

Again, I understand if those things don't appeal to you, but to say it's overpriced is not warranted.nyc05

Exactly; the cheapest stand-alone Blu-Ray players on the market will run you at least $800, so even if you buy the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player alone, its still half the price (and in many cases, less than half the price) of what others may cost you.

Also, not to bash the 360, but just to make a comparison, you would need upwards of $350 worth of peripherals for an Xbox 360 before it can doeverything the PS3 does right out of the box: $200 HD DVD drive, $100 wi-fi adapter, $50 per year for Xbox Live membership, and others.

Not to mention, unlike the 360 (for which you can only purchase expensive Microsoft-made peripherals), the PS3 is compatible with all other technology on earth:) such as bluetooth headsets used for cell phones, 2.5" hard drives used for laptops, mulitmedia memory cards used for digital cameras and PSPs, and there are even adapters if you want to use your PS2 controllers!

People may not be appreciating the full value of the PS3 yet, but in time, they will all see just how much of an amazing deal it truly is.
