Sadly, that's the problem. It GOT the respect. EVERYBODY who has played it knows how great it is. The problem is that it wasn't a hit. it didn't sell too well. Luckily, SOTC did a little better. I tihnk the success of SOTC will open up the doors for Team ICO. Their next project (or two) will get a lot more attention this time around.

I'm sorry but ICO is the most overrated "sleeper" I've ever played. I just don't get why everybody gushes all over this game. But thats just my opinion.

I will call ICO a platform game, one of the best, but if you don't like platform games I think it's pretty boring, but team ico is good at atmosphere, style, so it come close to an art-form, can't wait for their next step.

i have not played ICO yet, i briefly tried SotC, i bought both for basically 20 UK Pounds, i walked/rode around for about an hour and a half on shadow of the collosus and didnt find anything, and was getting rather bored, but i eventually found where i was suppost to go and had one of what is probably the best boss fights ever in a game.

still not played it past the first collosus though, im kind of hoping sony will release a firmware update for the ps3 that allows upscaling of ps2 games to 720p/1080i/1080p, thats why im holding back finnishing my ps2 games collection.

my ps2 games currently run at 576p, but they still look pretty ugly, god of war/god of war 2 looked allright, id rather play them rendered at higher resolution though, shouldnt be that hard to program the software emulation to do that.

i mean, i can play playstation 1 games at hi def resolution via emulation on my pc,sony can program this feature easy, im more interested in upscaling for ps1/2 games than any other feature for the ps3, i dont know if it was ever confirmed though.

dvd upscaling isnt a big deal for me as the movie can only really show at whatever resolution it was encoded at but games can be rendered at higher resolution than what they were on the ps2, granted the textures will look rather poor, but it will elimiate alot of jaggies and the games will look a hell of alot sharper.

It's a master piece puzzle game; very well made; the puzzles were hard but at the same time made sense. And BTW, SOTC did alot better cuz the PR was alot better than ICO's.

It was a sleeper critical hit, but not a sleeper commercial hit.

Ico was great. But, shadow of the colossus is one of my favorite ps2 games ever. I cannot wait for Team Ico to announce something about the new game. Did they say anything at gamer's day?

ICO is a great game, but my favorite sleeper hit would have to be Ring of Red. It got a lot less press coverage, but still got good reviews. Ico eventually got the attention it deserves, but Ring of Red has yet to.

ICO was a definite sleeper when it launched, but it hasn't aged well.  The game is distributed in the inferior PS2 purple bottom cd-roms which kind of gimped game in todays standard.

I played and beat ICO after beating SOTC. I loved both, but I think SOTC was better gameplay and storywise. I still loved ICO, but wanted a little bigger twist at the end. The puzzles in ICO are better though and it is surprisingly beautiful for an older ps2 game.

Truly epic and an unforgettable game. The first time play ICO, I was like, OMG, look at the size of the level, look at the animation, the graphics and the game-play. I still play ICo and once I finish ICo, I go and play Shadow of the Colossus...I can't get enough of them. Same goes for Okami. :D

ico was a game that came out in early 2000 it was considered one of the most underrated but one of the most loved ps2 games ever released. sotc is: shadow of the collousous that was kind of a prequal to ico that one kind of out their more then ico because they put more addvertisment out for it either way they were some of the best games out on the ps2.

Also, even though in ICO and Shadow of the Colossus there are lack of cut-scenes but yet it is as emotional as any game fill with cut-scenes (e.g. MGS series). Both are very unique games indeed.

I don't think it was underrated, it got 8.5 on Gamespot.  I think you wanted to say "undetected".
