I'm planning to purchase a new PSP within the next day or so (depending on what you all have to say about it).  I'm looking forward to playing some of the games the PSP has to offer, but I want to take full advantage of the PSP's functionality:  music, pictures, movies, and web browsing.

What software upgrades (firmware?) and add-on's would you recommend to make it a top-notch portable media center?  What are your thoughts on Sony's Media Manager?

Where are all the UMD movies... LOL?

What are some of the "must-have" games available now and coming soon?

What accessories are best for maintaining the PSP and limiting the scratches that can/will happen?

Thanks in advance!

There is a deal on memory stick. I believe it is at the frys or bestbuy website. $80 - $20 rebate = ~$60 for the 4GB memory stick pro duo

I think you can still get UMD movies from places like Amazon and Ebay but to be honest I've never felt the need to buy one. I just buy the DVD and put it onto my PC then onto the memory stick.

A few of the top rated games are... Lumines, Tekken DR, Metal Gear PO, Syphon Filter, Socom 2, GTA: LCS, GTA: VC, Daxter, Ratchet & Clank: S M, Locoroco, Sid Meier's Pirates, Burnout Legends (or there's new one coming soon), Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer, Mega Man Powered Up, Killzone: Libration...

I've had my PSP for over and year and haven't scratched the screen yet. I keep mine in a Logitech PlayGear Pocket case (although there may be better ones available now). Definitely get something similar though. It's been worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Pretty much everything ATG said is correct if your low on cash(which might be possible if you've got a PS#, 360 and a wii) then i suggest gettting the 4gb for the deal at circuit city or wherever and buying Metal Gear Solid:Portable Ops, Ratchet & Clank, & Burnout Legends (and if you ike GTA get Vice City Stories too) I want comment on the firmwares because that could get us in troule, but you should wait a little while then get the psp with internal memory and one with 2 analog sticks. Whats also cool is that if you put movies on your psp you can plug it into your PS3 with the usb cable you use for your contorler, then copy them to your PS3 and watch them on your television screen, it's pretty sweet

Thanks all...

Money is not too much of an issue but I can assure you that I don't want to see it wasted on anything unnecessary.

Does anyone know if Media Manager is a necessity or not.  I've read that if you know how to drag and drop into a USB drive, then you really don't need MM.  Does the software convert files to work with the PSP?

I've got plenty of games to play at home, so the PSP is only needed to hold me over during the kid's dance and kickboxing classes or when I'm on the road.  I hate owning too many games in fear that they'll never get played and go to waste.  I'm definitely getting Hot Shots Golf, but if you could own 1 more game along with that... what would it be?

Please disregard the firmware questions.  I see them everywhere and wasn't aware that it was such a no-no.  If someone is willing to email or PM me details on what it is everyone is talking about when they mention firmwares and homebrews... please feel free.

I've read a lot of good reviews about the Logitech case.  Is it better than Sony's?  How do you avoid getting dust underneath the screen?

Thanks again.

Sorry for the bump ^

Well, I picked up a PSP today.  Paid retail for it w/ a free UMD Movie (Monster House) at Target.

I picked up Hot Shots Golf as my very 1st PSP game!

I've decided to purchase either the Sandisk or Sony 4GB stick.  I'm also planning to use Datel's Max Media Pro to manage my media.  I've read some pretty good reviews about Sony's earbud/headphones, so I'll probably pick up a pair of those as well.

For protection, I'm going to use the Logitech Playgear Pocket and a Pelican screen protector.  What kind of case should I use to store my UMD's?

Should I have any regrets?  Any add'l suggestions?

keep your UMDS in the box, and as for anything to add, none whatsoever, you basicly have everything

What about when I'm on the go? I'd imagine it'd be a pain to carry 6 or so UMD cases around with me. I could purchase any one of the UMD carrying cases, but which one prevents scratches the best?

As far as the UMD storage is concerened you could take a look over at Amazon.com. They have a good selection and there are several reviews by customers so you fan get an idea of what might be best. I use the site to check things out and then see if I can find them in town.
