I got this idea for a Topic after posting in the MW2 vs Mag thread lol
what would be ways to inovate the FPS genre as , everything has been tried in every FPS and the good ones arent exactly Innovative just perfected.

YES AWESOME lol, FO3 was good for an RPG but the shooting aspects were kinda weird in a wayI'd love to see a FPS with RTS elements. Yes, it has been done before but done very poorly.SerpentX541like what? rainbow 6 and such?

Not many indie games get the credit they deserve even when they're on a national spotlight.
I don't know how many people are aware of this, but last year at E3 a small group of game developers in college won an "Best Student Game Award" for their take on an FPS.
----------------------------------------------------------------
It was called "Tag: The Power of Paint" and it involved shooting 3 different colors of paintballs on any surface in the game. Each color allowed you to do a different movement.

It's still available for download for free (sorry Mac users, buy a PC already) at the following URL:

It's definately worth a playthru and these students should get a job out of this work.

- the ability to pick stuff up and hurl it at you opponents (the distance thrown and travel speed would depend on size/weight of the object, and the damage will be distributed in a logical manner)Rakuho
Left 4 Dead while playing as the Tank in Versus mode
Good thought though

There is absolutely no way to change the FPS genre simply because it is just so linear.
All you can do is add more weapons and make it prettier.
The only revolution I see so far is Massive Action Game and its 256 online multiplayer and that is just only multiplayer.

I think it would be cool if they did a perk system that was more close ended, similar to that of Fallout 3. For instance, say on CoD4, for each level of prestige, you get to pick a special perk that would be permanent. Have like 3 perks to pick from, and the ones you don't pick, you don't have the option to pick again, so everyone's characters would have different strengths and weakness. Plus, you could make your character suit your playing tactics. If your more into heavy gunning, choose perks such as less recoil with LMGs or faster reloading. Both would be useful, but you could only choose one.

Well the FPS of today sure are a lot different than the ones 10 years ago. So whats new? More people to kill at one time. Destructive environments. Vehicles. Abilities. Graphics and weps of course. Types of modes...thats all I can think of atm but I'm sure there are more. So how about a large scale FPS (like MAG) with destructive environments (like Bad Company) given special abilities (like CoD) with vehicles (like Warhawk) and great graphics (like Killzone 2). I like the idea of a City of Villans vs Hero's approach with all that stuff incorporated. Or an Aliens vs Preditor type game where you can choose a technical side who uses weapons, or another side that uses powers etc. Progress with FPS is very slow though. It seems like every FPS chooses one thing to be good at. I.E. Killzone 2: graphics. CoD: abilities/perks Warkhawk:vehicles MAG: player size, and they don't try to mix any of it together. Looking at the strong titles, it seems like winners grab the best of a couple of titles and merge it into one game. I wouldn't be surprized if the FPS we start to see will take that sort of thing into consideration.[QUOTE="samuraiguns"]Well the FPS of today sure are a lot different than the ones 10 years ago. At least one of these is every game if not more, and none of these are revolutions.
WarHawk is an FPS? srsly?

I think MicroSofts Huxley fits this.Hoe about this;
Instead of 6-8 player teams you have a company of soldiers on the same team.Your company consists of;infantry platoons, artillery platoons, headquarter teams, armored motor vehicles platoon, military engineeringplatoons, search and rescue teamsetc. And you choose to be in one of thoseplatoons, which have different perks, challenges etc. The one with the highest rank is the leader of the selected platoon and has special abilities, like calling in airstrikes or territory exploration. Your companyis formed by100 players and you fight the other company.
Just a thought...

I agree. Have GTA IV but in FPS. But also have the cover system mechanic from Killzone 2, then it would be even better than it is now. :)
I'd like to see free running added into a pure fps, like Mirror's Edge but more forgiving and still focusing mainly on the shooting.
Oh yeah, and a 180 turn please.
Troqe
I loved the quick 180 spin from Red Faction 2. I'm surprised that hasn't caught on to current games.
