I'd love to see a FPS with RTS elements. Yes, it has been done before but done very poorly.

Not many indie games get the credit they deserve even when they're on a national spotlight.

I don't know how many people are aware of this, but last year at E3 a small group of game developers in college won an "Best Student Game Award" for their take on an FPS.

----------------------------------------------------------------

It was called "Tag: The Power of Paint" and it involved shooting 3 different colors of paintballs on any surface in the game. Each color allowed you to do a different movement.

It's still available for download for free (sorry Mac users, buy a PC already) at the following URL:

Metal gear solid, Assassin's Creed or inFamous in first person. I think that'd be cool and a lot more intense

- the ability to pick stuff up and hurl it at you opponents (the distance thrown and travel speed would depend on size/weight of the object, and the damage will be distributed in a logical manner); this includes any items your character is equipped with, including knife, gun, shoes, belt, hat, etc.. - be able to create cover for yourself by knocking over crates/barrels/etc. i got other stuff but i'll stop at this...

There is absolutely no way to change the FPS genre simply because it is just so linear.

All you can do is add more weapons and make it prettier.

The only revolution I see so far is Massive Action Game and its 256 online multiplayer and that is just only multiplayer.

I think it would be cool if they did a perk system that was more close ended, similar to that of Fallout 3. For instance, say on CoD4, for each level of prestige, you get to pick a special perk that would be permanent. Have like 3 perks to pick from, and the ones you don't pick, you don't have the option to pick again, so everyone's characters would have different strengths and weakness. Plus, you could make your character suit your playing tactics. If your more into heavy gunning, choose perks such as less recoil with LMGs or faster reloading. Both would be useful, but you could only choose one.

Well the FPS of today sure are a lot different than the ones 10 years ago. So whats new? More people to kill at one time. Destructive environments. Vehicles. Abilities. Graphics and weps of course. Types of modes...thats all I can think of atm but I'm sure there are more. So how about a large scale FPS (like MAG) with destructive environments (like Bad Company) given special abilities (like CoD) with vehicles (like Warhawk) and great graphics (like Killzone 2). I like the idea of a City of Villans vs Hero's approach with all that stuff incorporated. Or an Aliens vs Preditor type game where you can choose a technical side who uses weapons, or another side that uses powers etc. Progress with FPS is very slow though. It seems like every FPS chooses one thing to be good at. I.E. Killzone 2: graphics. CoD: abilities/perks Warkhawk:vehicles MAG: player size, and they don't try to mix any of it together. Looking at the strong titles, it seems like winners grab the best of a couple of titles and merge it into one game. I wouldn't be surprized if the FPS we start to see will take that sort of thing into consideration.

At least one of these is every game if not more, and none of these are revolutions.

Revolutionary is a radical change. I think having destructive environments revolutionized FPS. It definatley makes you play differently than if they weren't destructable right? Perks revolutionized FPS where most games are trying to include a similar feature now and that also changes the way you play the game. Having a couple hundred people on the screen vs having 8 might shift your way of playing too, I think that would qualify as revolutionary. A lot of these games don't try to tackle everything, they pick something and become very specific about it. There isn't any game that has as good as graphics as Killzone 2, but they didn't specialize in that area like Killzone did. Same thing about the perks in CoD. Even MAG doesn't advertise that they will have everything, the are specific in what makes their game unique. So no, not every game has the same thing, thats why they roll out different games! Its Call of Duty 6, not 60. Back in the day everyone had the same types of guns to choose from and that was it. Now, things are quite different and they will continue to evolve, otherwise we would still be playing Doom.

ideas that would revoltionize fps would be like the movie gamer that is coming out this year. you play a real person in real combat and your in control of the player. that would def be a different fps

Hoe about this;

Instead of 6-8 player teams you have a company of soldiers on the same team.Your company consists of;infantry platoons, artillery platoons, headquarter teams, armored motor vehicles platoon, military engineeringplatoons, search and rescue teamsetc. And you choose to be in one of thoseplatoons, which have different perks, challenges etc. The one with the highest rank is the leader of the selected platoon and has special abilities, like calling in airstrikes or territory exploration. Your companyis formed by100 players and you fight the other company.

Just a thought...

I agree. Have GTA IV but in FPS. But also have the cover system mechanic from Killzone 2, then it would be even better than it is now. :)

I'd like to see free running added into a pure fps, like Mirror's Edge but more forgiving and still focusing mainly on the shooting.

Oh yeah, and a 180 turn please.

I loved the quick 180 spin from Red Faction 2. I'm surprised that hasn't caught on to current games.

Considering the last post was nineteen days ago, I know I am kind of late, but hopefully people will still read this. It's a big idea, so bear with me. Its a developing idea, and isn't really complete. The start screen would give you five options to start. You can choose to be a Ruler, Military Leader, Soldier, Political Leader, or Citizen. There is a very large map, if not infinite like Spore in the space stage, but on one planet. Citizen: A citizen plays an RPG-style game in a country of another player (free world with less limitations than gta kind of like GTA+PS3Home+Assassins Creed), or AI. If you no longer want to play as a citizen, you can explore for new land and settle with other refugees which will allow you to become a Political Leader, Military Leader, or Ruler. You can Revolt with a group of revolutionaries to create new land within a country, or take over an entire country which would allow you to become a Ruler, Military Leader, or Political Leader, or enlist in the military of the country to become a soldier. You could also join politics to become a political leader under already existing ones in the country, you receive your own city to manage, and compete in ranks to eventually gain more cities of the country to become political leader of. Soldier: The Soldier plays an FPS style game like COD with the ability to unlock better guns etc. with money you earn from battles. You can also do training missions and espionage missions like splinter cell/COD. When countries go to war, the soldiers play the battles. A war i suppose could last a week or so, and all the battles played between the two countries in that period are added up and whoever has the most victories win. Or land can be taken/lost between every battle (developing idea, could use suggestions and feedback) A soldier can leave the military to become a citizen, or desert, to leave quicker. They can also rise rank to become a military leader first of a squad, then battalion, and eventually to the entire army. Military Leader: The Military Leader plays an RTS/FPS style game. They do that which soldiers do, but are also in control of the strategies that their soldiers will use, such as ambushes, flanks, etc. They may design or choose battle plans, and coordinate troops, compete ranks to be a higher leader, and also fight the FPS battles. They can also throw coup d'etats to become a political leader or ruler. Political Leader: The Political Leader manages diplomacy, resources, and declares and oversees wars, but do not fight in them. They also build cities. This game style would be based off of Civilization. Ruler: The Ruler, is both a Military Leader, and Political Leader of a country, they control the entire country, and are usually the founders. Rulers and Military leaders do not have to play the FPS battles This Game puts something in it for everyone, FPS/RPG/RTS/Stealth/and whatever you call Civilization. Yes, it would probably demand alot from whatever game system it's played on.
