Do you have a wireless router at all? You wouldn't need to do much at all, if so. You'd go to Network Settings, then set up a Network, either Wired or Wireless. If you do have a wireless router, it should be Wireless then. Just scan for your access point and you should recognize which one is your network (Usually the one with the highest signal). Afterwards, just save and everything should be fine.

If it's Wired, then I suggest getting a router regardless so you can run your cable connection to your computer and your PS3. You'd plug in the main connection into the router, then plug in the cable that comes with the router into your PC. Follow the direction for setting up your router network and it should be complete. You'll have to buy another ethernet cable to run into the area the PS3 is present. Connect that cable into one of the secondary Ethernet ports your router should have, which would mean it's connected to your cable connection. Go to Network Settings on your PS3 and set up your network as Wired, instead of Wireless.

Regardless, if you do have or getting a wireless router, it'd be easier just setting up your network as Wireless from your Playstation 3.

You can connect your PS3 direction to your modem but then you'd have to reconnect your Ethernetcable back to your PC each time. Decent wireless routers are as cheap as thirty to forty dollars.

This was my old one, which was quite trusty and a great first Wireless router. It's about as good as my current one but has a better design, if anything. Though I played on it with my Playstation 3 and had great signal. The online price seems a bit wrong since I referred my friend in a store to purchase one and he ended paying around forty or so.

Excuse me if you already have a wireless router, I just figured if you don't, you'd have less issues if you did have one. One good thing about this one is that it has an excellent tutorial on setting up your Network, step by step.
