Puting the latest update on it will ensure u can play all games and have the latest firmware, therefore more options and extras 2 play with.. if u dnt hav tha internet 2 dload the update get a m8 to thn put it on a cd or usb
Just the latest update, you see as a form of preventing piracy, sony has made it that everytime you need to update your console, it removes the old one and puts in the new one. Thats why updates tend to take so long.
