If I replace my old PS3 with a new one, how do I transfer my stuff over?

I have an old 40GB PS3 and I need more hard-drive space, so I figure I should just trade it in toward a new slim PS3.

But how can I transfer my game data, game saves and downloaded PSN games from my current PS3 to my new one?

I won't have both systems at the same time if that is what is needed because I would be trading one in toward the other.

If I HAVE to have both systems at the same time to do a transfer, then I can if necessary have them at the same time (maybe I will buy a the PS3 slim, do the transfer and then trade my old system in for credit or for games or something).

Thanks for any information.

Its called Data Transfer Utility connect the PS3's to eachother via Ethernet Cable and then select data transfer on the old one then the rest should be prompted on screen.

What he said. it's reall eazy to do. If you need help, there is a video on youtube, on how. Depends on how much stuff you have, it can take, a long time. It took me, 6 hours to transfer my stuff over.

^ Transfer Utility is the best for so many reason 1 being you can still earn Trophies on your saves after the transfer other methods don't allow this and you end up have to make a new save to earn trophies and the 2nd being it transfers everything even locked saves that don't transfer any other way.

Hey guys I was wondering. I already knew about the transfere thing with an ethernet cable, but I was wondering, will it transfer everything just the way it was on the other PS3? You see I have over sixteen thousnad pics on my PS3 and they are organized by month. So if I do that transfer, will my pics be organized exactly the same as they are on my PS3. Cuz I cant just put them on a USB and put it on a the new ps3, cuz they wont be organized by the months I have them in, they will just be in one giant folder.

Yes everything will be exactly as it was on your old PS3 from users to pictures to even internet history so any crap you don't want delete before you do the transfer.

see, i have a worse problem. My old PS3 got the YLOD, and I hadn't backed up for a long time... so... all my oblivion, GT5, fallout, etc. game saves are lost unless i can magically fix my old PS3... I wish there was a way to just pull the info directly off the HDD.

thanx. I've been wanting to by another PS3 cuz I hate when my older brother comes to use my PS3. All he plays is sports games and he only buys like one or 2 a year. After a month or two he never plays them again unyill one of his friends comes over. But he is so stupid and doesnt know anyting about the technology much less the PS3. He turns it off will its loading or saving by flipping the back power switch, he treats it like its a freaking N64.

No problem I did the transfer from a 120 slim to the new 320gb slim so I know all about this I looked into it a lot before doing the transfer myself.
