I'd give GOTY (on PS3) to Resistance 2 as I'm loving it. Got bored too quickly with LBP, Fallout 3 is fairly average in my opinion, GTA IV was a bit disappointing.

Actually, I know hundreds of people who recognize that GTA IV was quite dissapointing and does not deserve a 10 much less the GOTY award. Me including :)
either warhawk or Gt prolgoue. Both very technical games, that other consoles will never be able to replicate. Even though GT5 wasnt a full GT game, they put twice the effort in development than GTA4 for instance, which flopped in terms of delivering a big full GTA world that you actually cared for, who cares about american architecture and straight roads? probably why i dont play resistance2.
In my opinion, Valkyria Chronicles. However it would never have actually one even if MGS4 didn't exist. That easily would have been GTA4 unfortunately.

I just said "Since this is a PS3 forum" to justify the absence of titles such as Gears 2 like you mentioned, Fable 2 and Left 4 Dead. As for mainstream media(including gamespot) GTA IV would have won GOTY. IGN gave it a 10, Gamespot gave it a 10, several other websites and magazines gave it a 10; had MGS4 not been released GTA IV would have probably been the GOTY for many videogaming journalists undeservingly of course.
gow2 was cheap, in that the graphics were good for a 360 but the animaiton and motion belonged..well...in the butchers dustbin, next to halo3. For 2 of the biggest money making games you'll think they would play like they sell. American sure make bad games these days

Holy crap. MGS4 swept the awards, winning even the one it shouldn't have one, and you STILL play the "GS is biased" card?
I believe LBP would have won since it's the only original thing to come out this year plus the whole Play Create Share concept driving it. GTAIV, as much as I enjoy it, didn't really deliver anything new in terms of gameplay

no their still biased as they are american who only like american things. You know superb cars like dodges, and chevvys and really big fat sweaty styless women. They just cover their tracks every so often. No only kidding there not as bad as gamesradar that are owned by microsoft.

You do realize that Gears 2 wasn't even nominated for GotY at Gamespot, right? Yeah... also, Resistance 2 was probably better, IMO. Gears 2 definitely had the edge in terms of single player, but lag-free 60 player online an 8 player co-op blood baths are just tough to beat... Not only that, but even if Gears 2 single player was better, there are a lot of better single player shooters, ala MGS4, GTAIV (if you consider it a shooter), and CoD: W@W

Me including :) Twas fun... while it lasted, though, but many could say the same about MGS4, even though I still play the single player for emblems and such, and occasionally, MGO.
I bought and played most of PS3's big tittles, Fallout3, GTAIV, MGS4, LBP, Resistance2 and a few others. I've also played a little of Gears2, entire Crysis Warhead, Professor Layton, FF VII Crises Core and a few PC tittles... In my humble opinion the only game this year besides MGS4 that managed to make my jaw drop was Valkyria Chronicles. It exceeded most of my expectations. It was the only one to show something really new and innovative. Its mix of strategy, turn-based rpg and third person shooter is so well executed that stuns me no matter how many times I play it. It's new, it's innovative, it's graphically beautiful and it's addictive. It there's no MGS4 in my opinion Valkyria Chronicles would've been the one (even though it was not even nominated).
Too bad people overlook it and we most probably won't see a sequel. That's the bad thing of carrying SEGA name as developer.

Dude you still don't get it do you? GameSpot HAD to give those awards to MGS4 because they didn't have any other choices. MGS4 deserved them, the people wanted it to win and that's what it got. The community at GameSpot voted, the community wanted MGS4 to win everything, GS editor had to take those votes in considerations. GS is biased and this will never change. MGS4 had to win those awards.

You're argument is flawed. You let your own love for MGS4 blind you into thinking that your opinion of it as one of the best games ever is a fact, which leaves GS no choice and forces them into giving MGS4 all those awards against their will. They had a choice. They chose to go with MGS4. Even in the category it didn't deserve. They gave MGS4 a 10/10. What else do they have to do to show that they aren't biased against the PS3? They've shafted other consoles before.
Critically speaking this was the year of two games. To really open up the question, you've got to eliminate both MGS and GTA. If you got rid of both those games, probably Fallout 3.

Was Gears 2 even nominated for GOTY? Well I think if MGS4 never existed it would be a sad world but GOTY would probably have gone to GTAIV.
