they should make it the basis of the console's menu. When you turn on your PS3, HOME should immediately launch with your character getting up from his bed. From your house within HOME you should be able to walk around and select what you wish to do. Moving to the TV and selecting it would launch whatever game is in the console. Pulling up your cell phone by pressing some button would bring up your friends/messages. Private chats would have your character talking on his cell phone, with the ability to still walk around. Moving to your radio and selecting it would allow you to listen to your music... and so on and so forth for each of the systems features. I think this would work really well. It would be like an interactive menu, customizable and all. Changing the decor of your house/menu would work the same way it does now, by purchasing or earning it. The idea would be simply about immersing the player more in the console experience.

I've been thinking the same thing for a while. Just needs to be faster and more user friendly. And the constant load times need to go.

Oh, god no.

Home is fine as it is, an optional download. Sony should spend more time on making games, funding to keep exclusives, adding voice/video chat into PSN - Not Home.

I have been thinking about this for a while. It would be a great idea, I thought Sony would implicate this better.

Characters from the last 5 or so games you've played (if they're sony exclusive games) could walk around/be chilling around your house. Online friends could be invited over and activities like pool/darts and other things could be participated in.

oh and BTW home avatars are really really REALLY UGLY! my avatar doesnt look to me, not 1 bit! the haircuts are stupid and they are not many, most of them repeat. the face of the guys look HORRIBLE! seriously, I was trying to make one, if his eyes looked fine, then his mouth and nose were huge, if his nose was normal, his jaw was ultra tiny, there was such an awfull balancing in the atributes. seriously, my avatar looks "normal" (still ultra ugly) if you look him from his front, but if you look him from his side...dammit! looks like a freaking alien with a HUGE forehead, I mean, only the forehead, its awfully huge, while the rest of the head remains small! and if you try to do the forehead small, then his cheeks grow up and he looks like those vampires from Blade 2!

Oh come on, like walking over to a TV would take soooooo much longer than selecting it from a menu, because it really wouldn't. If the player is really in such a hurry, then the XMB button is still in the center of the controller for the player. Its about immersion is all.

It sounds like your problem is more with HOME's current problems than it is about this idea which would be all about improving it. I agree with you about character creating needing addressed. I actually think Sony should implement the feature some 360 games have implemented. those with a PSEye should be able to face map their face onto a body of their creation. It looked decentin 360 games, I'm sure it would work in HOME.

pls...pls STOP! stop giving those ideas! now you are saying that it would be cool to have snake getting into your house when you turn on the PS3 yeah I can imagine how "cool" would be to have someone knocking at the door, and when you open, "YO YO YO YO YO WHATS UP! " tah dah! its drake and snake!!! they just camed into your house to play PS3 and talk with you! you might think its a cool idea, but trust me, after 1 day of having that, everyone would get bored! now if sony wants to do that, then they should make it OPTIONAL! and not obligate everyone to do that, cuz like I said, large % of the ps3 owners would not like that idea... do you actually think that someone will throw away their XMB and replace it with an interface where you need to run and move to reach certain place and then do something that it could have taken you 1 second to do with an XMB?? for example, I "wake up" I go to the computer which lets say would be at the opposite side of the house, it takes me 5 seconds to get there, then I gotta run back to the tv, other 10 seconds! so something that would have taken less than 5 seconds with XMB took 15...sorry but like I said, your idea fails badly

Actually, they'd be silent. The characters walking around your house would serve as a reminder of what games you last played. Walking up to one, and selecting them would bring up a trophy list for that game/any game you've played in that characters series. And its just an idea, I'm not saying it needs to be that way.

Also, you're being kind of oxymoronic by asking for the whole thing to be optional, as, like I said, the XMB makes the whole thing optional. Don't like it? Then whip up you're XMB and select whatever the hell you want to do just as fast as you could before. Its optional already. The fact is, this idea would work well and it would be a smart move for Sony, because, as the thread title states, it would pull more people into HOME. It wouldn't change a thing for those who don't want it to, so I really don't understand your problem with it.

The XMB is small enough to run on one SPE, so when you hit the PS button it's already running. Home will not run on one SPE, for that reason alone it's not viable.

Other than that I think the OS needs to be as simple as possible people don't run to walk over to the tv in home to put in a bluray, when they just did that in real life, or going outside to check my mailbox and being hit on buy a swarm of pervy clones.

I don't understand what you're saying, sorry. Whats an SPE?

Options like this could be customizable from some sort of inHOME menu. From this menu you could decide whether inserting a disc would automatically start said inserted disc, or whether you would have to manually start it from your 'HOME TV'.

an SPE is one of the cell processors sattelite cores. Even when your playing a game the XMB is running on that SPE. so when your in game you hit the PS button and the xmb is already running. when you see pople on your friends list come online while your playing, thats because the XMB is handling that on it's SPE. Home wouldn't run on an SPE.

Also I dont want discs to automatically load, and neither would I want my ps3 to load home, IMO not only is it technically not going to work it's just not a good idea.

Home is terrible :(

I know I would like to go in Home more often to catch the previews and such if it didn't feel like I was controlling a 1995 fps. The character movement should be like GTA4 movement or something.

I like the idea, however when you turn on your ps3 wouldnt it load to ps home(your idea). some people wouldnt like the idea because they probably would just want to jump into a game without having it load amounts of time for that feature.

I think home should be removed off PlayStation 3 XMB. It's ridiculous and to me is considered an eye sore tomy AFRIKA theme. I rather take Voice Messaging and Cross Game Chat over all those features you listed that should be included in HOME.

Okay, first off: I LOVE how you keep bashing this guy for coming up with original ideas while bringing nothing new to the table yourself. It's the reason some people work in marketing and not creative research; they don't have any ideas of their own.

Furthermore, here's an idea: Make the integration OPTIONAL. See how easy that was? Now his "failure" of an idea no longer fails. If you don't like it, you can just ignore it. A more logical response would be like the one from the guy saying that Home would take more to run than the XMB alone. I agree with that. I just find it kind of disheartening when all people can do is bash people's ideas without offering a constructive criticism to that idea.

Actually, all they need to do is make those Trophy Rooms they promised us. I dont think forcing people who dont like/use Home (which is the majority of ps3 users) to always go through it would piss off lots of people.

HOME will only ever be good once it is free. I don't want to pay for costumes and decor and everything else when there are games out there which are thousands times better but still offer customisation.

i think Sony had these sorts of ideas in mind when they thought about Home.
but the fact is that its way too ambitious.

The technology is not up to par, and is not able to offer us an immersive experience, without frustrating us with load times first.

they should make it the basis of the console's menu.

The idea would be simply about immersing the player more in the console experience.

Sounds like a pain. I'd rather just have a standard menu where I can quickly and efficiently find my way around.

I've been thinking the same thing for a while. Just needs to be faster and more user friendly. And the constant load times need to go. Doomtime
Agreed, but I can understand how this could be a difficulty. I think Home would run a lot smoother if the in-game XMB was abandoned whilst you were in Home, and Home took over the role of the operating system (or at least, all of the main functions), thus allowing more RAM available to it. It won't ever happen, because there would be outcry about the lack of XMB, but it would certainly benefit the system overall.

they should make it the basis of the console's menu. They could just make an option to boot to the xmb OR home. I really do like this idea. Except, simplify it more. instead of walking to a tv or something just have everything on a table like maybe a controller, mp3 player, tv remote, cell phone, etc... sitting there (much like the xmb) to choose from. it could load with your avi standing infront of the table giving you the option of walking out into the home world or interacting with the table menu. It'd be interesting to, say, pick up the mp3 player and hae your avi put headphones in and zoom into the players screen. Or grab the ps3 controller and sit on the couch then then zoom into the tv screen. pick up the cellphone and, again, zoom into the screen. you get the point.

Dude thats a ganstah as idea.
I mean i would be good as, and sony should do something like in fifa10 where you can take a picture of your face online, upload it and then on your console it makes your character look like you and then you can fine tune.

But yeah, it would be good, and for people who dont want it can go to the settings and just set "XMB Start Up" instead of "Home Menu Start Up"

Sony listen to this guy, hes got some good ideas.

im sorry lightleggy but youre just a hater....i like the idea...and me personally i say as soon as you press the PS button PS3 pops up along with your home character getting out of bed and all that(all taking the normal time to get signed in along with the XMB booting up...) also i like your idea of going to certain spots to get to these places...like the TV for a game or movie and Radio for music and so on and so forth....i would like to just have a computer there somewhere for PS Store....what would be better though is that they let all this be available from home without it being mandatory yet all this stuff you can still do....i still find it puzzling that there arent TVs and/or Radios for your vids and songs on PS3 thats just dumb

Oh, god no.

Home is fine as it is, an optional download. Sony should spend more time on making games, funding to keep exclusives, adding voice/video chat into PSN - Not Home.

TehSonofUgly

yah i kind of like the menu the way it is. plus i dont always get 4/4 bars when playing online and HOME is online so... problems?

What they REALLY need to do is get rid of all the load times. All of them. One of the most frustrating things in Home is going from one place to another because not only do you have to navigate through a clunky menu to decide where you want to go, you also have to wait about 15-20 seconds for the initial load and then another 20-30 seconds for all the characters and objects to pop in. All in all in takes about a minute or more to actually go from one location to another making the whole thing seem like a waste of time. If I wanted to watch a loading screen I would rather just watch the sparkle background on the XMB.

i like it... BUT what about people who use it just for blu ray? or like people who use it mainly for media server stuff... like me? (cept uncharted 2) i like what Ryan_Som said. option to integrate it. that would be awesome. =]
