I think Sony's main objective in creating this super computer was to cause to their opponents that which is happening to them at this very moment, and that is alienation from game developers to a certain extent. It seemed like a rather bold, relentless business move to come out with a system soley on their terms forcing game developers to conform to their hardware. I'm sure they though that being the dominating console last generation would continue without problems in this generation. I can only assume they were trying to squeeze and suck the life out of the xbox 360. I think microsoft was well aware of this and that's why they did some unprecedented moves of resilience to combat the mighty beast. However, it seems that both these companies live by the code of forcing formates upon consumers. SO in reality it was like to poker players at the same table playing the same game. Sony went all in and lost. Even if the sales increase, it will never be to the extent that they desired. They will never be the one and only Sony Playstation any longer. It has to share the market with a lion, microsoft.

For the most part i agree but the flaw with your analogy is that if they lost then it would be over. Whether it's doing well or not the PS3 is still thriving and very much still "in the game" they may never reach the goals they wanted to but that doesn't mean they're out yet. They had a few bad hands, lost a couple pots but just like any good poker game, you never know whose gonna win it till the very end. It's way too soon to call this one over, lets just wait and watch

i hope you didnt waste too much time coming up with that because as the world sees it, the ps3 beats the 360 week over week and is quickly narrowing the gap. by the end of this console war sony will be far ahead. im starting to see it here to. north america was always the 360 capital and now all my friends are finally letting the 360s collect dust and buying ps3's

As owner of both systems i have to disagree with you on a fiew points.

While 360 has undeniably been ahead for the past 2 years and only a dumb fanboy wouldn't see that, i have to say i am finally start to see the PS3 coming back this year.

Sure mistakes were made, sure Sony thought they were unbeatable and they made the same mistake Nintendo did in the Nintendo 64 gen but with MGS4 coming out and Blu ray winning the battle with HD DVD, the odds are really changing and

a much closer battle expects us in the near future and that, except if you are an idiot fanboy , is exactly what video gamers should hope for.

The fact that 3 close contenders are fighting is going to make this gen a great one.

MONOPOLY IS THE ENEMY...when are you fanboys going to understand that? When will you realize that if there wasn't for the Xbod 360 PS3 wouldn;t need to be half as good to prevail? (and viceversa)

If you love your system and want to see the best out of it yuou gotta hope in a close race

If this were a poker game Sony didn't go all in, it just went really big on the first hand it was dealt and lost, but anyone who actually plays poker knows that in doing so the player can than manipulate the rest of the game based on what there opponents think they've learned about you. No matter how many hands you win or lose as long as your still in the game and adapting your play style its not over. In fact doing something like that is a strategy that I employ often. Unfortunately we lost some potential blockbuster because of what happened in what is mostly a PR war, however I can not wait Sony's next big hand which is to say its still early in the game and when you look at devs like naughty dog it should be obvious that the potential for games on PS3 is overflowing, and I don't mean just graphics...suffice it to say that I believe we have barely seen the true next generation of games.

that's exactly the way to see it...i see video games more like politics...during a political career, mainly in elections anything can and will happen...saying that one candidate will instantly win over the other is foolish, as all kinds of factors can lead to one winning over the other...Sony is down, but definitely not out..it's just going to be interesting to see what kind of steps they'll take to increase their market share.
