Agreed Monk, why all the hate for COD...I know it's not the greatest game ever, but why all the dam hate?
almossbb
the hate is based on making a change in the series. its not worth releasing the same game over and over, even if it is a great game. its time for a revolution!
Lawdy, son...
... These are games we're talking about here. If you want to put that sort of energy into fighting for change, put it into something that needs fighting for!
This isn't a matter of survival, it's about discretionary entertainment; You don't need to participate in any of it if you don't want to. We all have a choice as to playing or not, and then there are lots of genres to select from, and usually several choices within those. This should, by all logic, make the members of the hobby happy. After all, that's why there's chocolate, strawberry, AND vanilla ice cream - Not everyone likes everything the same. But somewhere, within those choices, there should be something which elicits a positive, pleasurable experience from the consumer.
What confounds all logic on these forums sometimes, is the amount of time and energy people will take up to still grumble and scratch with dissatisfaction about a game they have no interest in... How often people will devote their energies towards trying to get a rise out of others in a negative way by posting inane blather like it's going to change anything. The litany of "CoD Sucks" has been duely noted since MW2 and WaW. We get it. And stating that opinion is what forums are all about, certainly. But all the negativity in the world isn't preventing your fellow gamer from stepping in that big ol' steamy pile of MW3. So I ask again: Who is wasting more time, CoD players or the would-be detractors of Activision's property? It's not the impotent rage of the people who do it that depresses me most about their character, and subsequently leads me to question the integrity of the community at-large...
... Are Congressmen and church groups correct in their assessment of gamer culture? Are we a bunch of nose-picking, violent, socially maladjusted knuckle-draggers who have no allegiances, education, or moral compass?
It's the desire to see my gaming brothers and sisters as something more than the labels we've been slapped with, and my belief that we are an inherently greater intellectual collective than we are given credit for.
But people spewing hatred about a game stands in the face of every convention I want to hold about you all in my heart. And that sucks.
The next time you're moved to post yet another quip about how a game sucks, stop and ask yourself if it's actually clever and will make people laugh (because let's face it sometimes a good joke is a good joke, and NEEDS to be posted for the benefit of the community), or if you're just going to repeat the same "observation" others have made, not actually contributing anything of note to the conversation.
It was pointed out to me awhile back by another forum member that my negativity about a game wasn't relevant to the actual conversation, and though it smarted a bit to admit, he was right. Since then I have tried to temper my feelings a bit, and not knee-jerk react-post the minute my fingers get itchy. I'm not perfect, but it seems to have made me a bit more popular when I post.
At least, people aren't hanging a burning monkey in effigy anymore.
:P
But I would urge all of you "haters" out there to take a minute and think about posting how a game sucks over and over. It's not going to change anything. Vote with your money, and don't buy it. And stop giving it so much screen time. The more you rail against it, the more press you give it, the more power it ultimately commands (and we in the music biz have a saying that there is no bad press - If you're in the papers you're on people's minds, and that's a victory. Ask Lady Gaga).
It's just fine that you don't like MW3. There are several other flavors to sample. But stop spitting in the ice cream others like, and we, in-kind, promise not to spit in yours.
:)
