to an explosive climax that's guaranteed to set forums alight with heated discussion, Killzone 2 is a game guaranteed to impress from start to finish.
I'm all about story when it comes to my games, and I must say that this has piqued my interest.
Despite the ridiculously ugly color scheme of the game, I might have to pick this one up.
I could have sworn yesterday you said you planned to buy the game (superbowl advert or not ... although I could be mistaken). I love good stories and I really like the art style. This game is definitely going to be purchased and played for hours come feb 27th, after my stupid labs that I have that day. Thank goodness its being released on a Friday, so I have the whole weekend to play it.to an explosive climax that's guaranteed to set forums alight with heated discussion, Killzone 2 is a game guaranteed to impress from start to finish.

Oh yeah... I guess I'm on the fence about it, then. It's a love-hate thing. Like, I really want to get it because it's so pretty and everyone's hyping it to be (yeah, I know it's said a lot, but I'll say it again) the second coming of Jesus, but then there's a part of me that doesn't really care for it because it's just ugly looking (color scheme, I mean) and it just looks like another typical shooter.
Sure it may be fun, but to me, once you've played an FPS, you've played them all. Especially since it's been called a bigger, meatier Call of Duty 4.
If the story is good then I'll probably buy it, but if it's something that I could just read about on a forum and still get the same experience from it as playing the game, then I'll pass.
I played and beat this game last night. It was ok,nothing special.I kinda think the multiplayer is dead already cause I could only find a couple of people....shame I wish this game could have been better.K1LLR3175haha, thats funny

Hmm I don't know. I guess I've just grown accustomed to FPS, which is weird since I really didn't like playing them last generation except for the first killzone which i first played at a friends house and then borrowed and played on my own. I'm surprised you don't like the art style, I think it gets that war feeling across perfectly, but I guess thats just personal preference. I expect the story to be pretty good; KZ definitely has one of the better villians out there, even though we haven't seen much of him ... Visari (aka. Brian Cox) just sounds so awesomely badass. And that class system for online play, really intrigues me, does the online not interest you at all?
I keep seeing video's and preview and the wait for this game is just getting annoying now . Is it just me or does anyone feel that Guerilla is ahead of schedule. I mean its 1.5 months away til release and they've already sent out review copies to everyone! The game has had multiplayer beta's going on in Oct, which from what I've heard seemed finished but just required tweaks to certain classes here and there. The game is actually done and is just being tweaked here and there, for minor graphical bumps etc ... Like I feel as though they could probably release the game in a couple weeks time. Oh well its good to know that by march ... I'll be playing some Killzone!

You are right my friend. The game was supposed to be released last holiday season, but they delayed it to February to avoid conflict with Resistance 2.

Oh no, it isn't that. I love the art style.
It's perfect because according to the story, it's supposed to look like that; it's war-torn, dark, desolate and gritty. The thing I don't like is all the different shades of gray. Now don't get me wrong, I do understand that they couldn't use pink or blue because that just wouldn't fit the story at all, so they used gray.
I also feel that the gray works amazingly well for this type of game, it just isn't something that draws me, personally, to the game.
I borrowed Mirror's Edge from a friend and I'm ready to spend a full $60 on it because not only is it fun, but it's beautiful to look at.
Not from a photorealistic standpoint, but from an aesthetically pleasing one.
It isn't trying to look photorealistic like Crysis, or Killzone 2, it just looks damn pretty, you know? Every other hallway/elevator you're in is always a bright shade of lime green, sky blue, yellow, sherbert orange or hotpink.
If Killzone 2 did this, I'd buy it no matter what, but then again that wouldn't make it Killzone 2, now would it?
That's why I'm kinda iffy on this one.
I'm sure it'll be a smash hit, though; no doubt.

You've clearly been infected by Mirror's Edge :P (you added the colours afterwards   - now I know where that colour coated ownage came from yesterday)
I thought the super bright primary colours with the white were kind of annoying at the beginning of the demo, felt so fake to me (although I realized that was never what they were going for), but I think they would grow on me when I play it (who know's when that will be though, my rent list is really really really long!!). But I also thought the art style fit ME and that is enough for me. For me even if I don't initially like the art style, so long as it fits with the game and the plot, I'm content and it tends to grow on me as I play through the game.
I can understand where your coming from to a degree. I just like that gritty dark art style. I don't mind the grey's at all. And I'm also certain there's more than just grey's, from some video's that I've seen of different levels on deserts, in the day time, although it isn't exactly the bright primary colours of ME, It manages to bring colour but doesn't feel out of place, which is impressive.
Honestly with all the talk about KZ2 right now, I can't even imagine what kind of chaos this board is gonna be like that week and the week after release.

I agree. Both games have their own styles and utilize colors in ways that fit their stories and environments logically, I just prefer the brightness of Mirror's Edge to the grittiness of Killzone 2.
Although, Killzone 2 looks fantastic. I'm probably going to buy it just because it's the best looking (technically speaking) console game I've ever seen. I'm waiting for a review though, so I can find out exactly what there is to the multiplayer.
I need to know if it's the run-and-gun kind of gameplay (Halo, Resistance) or the more tactical kind (CoD4, SOCOM).
I loved CoD4, but wasn't feeling R2 all that much.

Yeah I have to agree COD4 online is better for me than R2 is. COD4 just feels more organized in the fighting, R2 is just more chaotic.
From what I've heard from beta users, KZ2 is definitely more on the tactical side. if your team was just full of a bunch of engineers and medics, I'm pretty sure you'd get owned. "variety in terms of classes plus good strategy and teamwork is essential for success", is paraphrased from my friend who got in the beta and never told me til after it was over -__-. But the guy is sort of excessive fanboy, so I'd take that quote with a grain of salt. But even from the previews, almost everyone that I can remember said the multiplayer felt more tactical.
I've never played a FPS before due to the M content. However, I tried out MGS1 and that was a really interesting game. Then I played MGS2 and it was pretty awesome too, I just need to make sure I wear the thermal goggles when shooting people. My point is that if I can turn off the blood in Killzone 2 then I may get it. I know if I do get it it will be awesome for cause I never played a FPS.ZidaneskiI don't think you can turn off the blood, hopefully there is a way so you can get a chance to play it. But I have to warn you: MGS1 and 2 are extremely different games from FPS's. They are not even close in terms of gameplay.

Closest FPS game I played is Mirror's Edge but there was barely any blood and that didn't even encourage you to pick up a gun. How fixed is the camera in Killzone 2? Mirror's Edge fixed?

Well Mirror's Edge isn't a FPS(First Person Shooter), its an FP game, but its not a shooter. And what do you mean by fixed camera, if you mean fixed in terms of your eyes are = the eyes of the character you play, then yes. But I'm not sure if thats what you meant, and just watch gameplay video's of KZ2 on Gametrailers, to get an idea of what the camera's like.[QUOTE="one_on_one"]Do we have another exclusive 10 in our hands? Reading what you wrote at first I thought you were joking about being girly about a red liquid coming out of a person---a digital person at that. If you are a little kid, then play things made for your age group and just ignore this game coming out. If you are like 17+, then I think you need to man up to be honest.
As for how Killzone 2 plays just check out youtube or www.gametrailers.com. Type in Killzone 2 and you can find out how it plays. Really though the game is nowhere near as gruesome as say Gears 2 or Fallout 3 in the amount of digital red liquid you see. You will see a person's head get completely blown off if you get a headshot with the sniper and pockets of blood come out of enemies when you shoot them down.
If you are younger than 17 though, then stick to other games. If you are 17+ and a wussy though, then grow a pair. :) It's called tough love.
[QUOTE="navstar29"][QUOTE="Zidaneski"]Then I highly suggest not getting this game, I highly doubt that there will be a feature to remove the blood, and to be honest a FPS without blood is kinda weird.I meant to say closest game to a FPS I played is Mirror's Edge. Yeah is everything from the eyes? If you roll in KillZone 2 will the camera roll too? I would watch videos but I'm very squimish to the blood.

I thought it was kinda cool that Gears 2 let you censor the blood and languge. I watched my friends play it for a little bit but it didn't censor the blood during the scene with escapeing the first worm and I almost threw up, lol.
Honestly, just try to watch a video, if you see the blood and its really bothersome to you ... by all means pause/close the stream and be done with it, but if you can tolerate it, then I think you have your answer. Try google searching for this feature in Killzone 2, They have this huge topic in the PS board called "Ask the Dev's" and people asked the KZ2 dev's questions about KZ2. Its done now (ie closed topic, but its like 200+ pages long) but maybe some one asked that question and they addressed it.PTOM has some bias in their reviews, but not as much as you would think.
They just tend to rate all games a little higher than other sites/magazines. I think this has more to do with their rating system (5 stars vs 10 point scale used by most people).
They did give Haze the award for most disappointing game in their yearly awards, and it was a playstation exclusive. The only knock that they gave Killzone 2 was that it lacked co-op. Also, they said that they could no comment yet on the online portions because the general public does not have the game yet.
