IGN review for Mafia 2 a major disapointment

I just read the IGN review and I'm definitely disapointedI was looking forward to this game. I guess I was naive to think it would be any good with that lackluster demo.I'll save my money for all the other good games coming out this fall and wait for a price drop in a few months. Anyone else change their minds as a result?

What changed my mind was the low-res PS2 graphics, and the pedestrian gameplay. Boring stuff, poorly presented. "China Town Wars" is a better gameall around, and it's on a HAND-HELD.

Its still worth a rental im sure for those who really want to play it.

I wasn't going to buy it anyway.... I said Rental from the get-go.

I knew it was going to suck after playing the demo. Can't shoot from the car, pedestrians are stupid, if you shoot at a cop car 20 feet away, it doesn't even register.

I dunno how they let that last one slip by.

I find it hard to believe that so many people are seeing all of the problems and short-comings of this game and it comes down to that (oh he's a bad review writer) as an excuse... The game is a turd, with no punchbowl, even,to float in. Greg Miller isn't the problem, the GAME is.

I may rent it and see how it is. The one thing I did like was how the guns felt then fired. Guess we will all find out tomorrow.

I applaud the realism, actually. GTA, you can slit people's throats and no one calls a cop. If a game is going to do anything in this genre to impress, it's gotta be 180* from what's already been done, or I'm just gonna stick with GTA or Saint's Row... these games like "Mafia" and "Scarface" are too derivative and therefore lose me quickly... At least with "Mafia II" the devs are trying ot be a little different...

... and it's funny that "Saint's Row" is now grandfathered into the Club, with non-functional dookie like this game and "Scarface".

I'll wait to play it myself before passing judgement on its quality.

I would have missed out on a lot of great games over the years if I listened to every review I ever read.

I wouldn't care if IGN gave mafia a 2/10 i'm still going to buy the game.

Never take a review as some sort of written law, because we all like different things. Unless it's a 2/10 or something BLATANT in the quality, I feel that a 7/10, or a 3/5 or something, then it's playable and open to the interpretation of the gamer. I have several games which got mediocre reviews and i love them more than "Triple-A" titles in my collection.

Nothing wrong with buying this one, because it looks far from broken to me... I just don't need another game of this type. If you haven't O.D.'d on this type of game, mazeltov!

I'm still interested in the game since I love the settings. I don't believe I'll buy it because of the overall lack of polish but I'll definitely rent it to experience the story.

I don't have 60$ to spend on average titles. ;)

Did anyone play Driver 3 on the PS2 and Xbox? Mafia 2 is almost the exact same thing except Mafia 2 adds stores, has a cover system,and (I'm assuming) has less glitches. So if you want a PS2/Xbox game that's set in the 1950's then get it, if not then don't bother.

The review score isnt that bad. From what i read while it does have its lacking moments, there is nothing seriously flawed in this game that would make it so horribly painful to play. While i may not purchase it day 1 for me, ill pick it up eventually.

I just read and watched the review at GS when there's a discrepancy in scores between review sites it automatically becomes a rental for me. A 7 isn't bad it's worth a play just not a full price purchase. However an 8.5 or above is when I considera full price purchase. Since there's no consistency in scores between the review sites I'm renting this one.

It's amazing how many of you let other peoples opinions affect your own views.

It's not getting great reviews anywhere else either. It's averaging about 70% on Game Rankings, with Eurogamer giving it a 4/10. The best score I've seen is Game Informer & here at Gamespot, 9 & 8.5 respectively.

I think I'll give it a miss. Shame.

Again, I don't see these painful demo problems everyone claims to have had. I played it twice and, I thought the game played fine, looked alright. It's just no great shakes, is all.
