I'm going for the $200 PSP 3000 bundle. I really wanted a white PSP, but it looks like I have to settle with this dull looking silver :(

I've done a fair amount of research on what games I may buy (not exactly all at once):

1. Sid Meier's Pirates! (anyone have this?)
2. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (never tried these, sound cool)
3. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (are the Ac!ds worth buying as well?)
4. God of War: Chains of Olympus (do i need to play the PS2 versions to get the story?)
5. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (included with bundle!)
6. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
7. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

I'm still looking around, and would appreciate if you know of any hidden gems that I might pass over. I would also like to know of any Japan - only games that are particularly good.

I never really got into portable gaming but it sounds like a great deal as I'm not ready to commit to a PS3 until FF13 comes out (and a price drop or 2).

EDIT: ONE MORE THING - how is the PS store and what can I buy on it? do they offer old PS games and what not?

thanks

well, in my personal opinion i'd go with crisis core: final fantasy 7 and final fantasy tactics. personally i loved crisis core, i thought it was an amazing game. on the note of the other games, i really enjoyed sid meier's pirates, but i have a feeling thats a game for an acquired taste. valkyrie profile is a pretty fun game, and the others i have no clue about.

i'm not exactly sure how much money you have to spend on games, but if you can only get one, assuming you are a fan of the final fantasy series, i'd go with crisis core.

Your research shows TC. It's a pretty solid list. I'd start off with this list of games and then go from there. But since you asked about games you might have missed, I'll go ahead and give you the rest of the list anyway. Also, you don't need to play the PS2 games to get GOW: Chains of Olympus since its a prequel like Crisis Core

  • Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
  • Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
  • Syphon Filter: Combat Ops
  • Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
  • Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
  • Lumines I & II
  • Socom Fireteam Bravo 1 & 2
  • Locoroco
  • Patapon
  • Kingdom of Paradise
  • GTA: LCS
  • GTA: VCS
  • Jeanne D'Arc
  • Crush
  • Monster Hunter Freedom 2(Might want to rent this one first to make sure its for you)
  • Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology(Same as above)

well i'm assuming a fair number of these games are at a lower price now, given the time they came out.

does anyone know if they plan to put Playstation FFs on the store? I don't see why they wouldn't (maybe a space issue?).

1. Sid Meier's Pirates! Pirates is solid. Definately worth $20 and will last a long time
2. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth- Awesome story and cutscenes. can get boring/frustrating but should keep you entertained.
3. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops-I am against most people here but I like AC!D 2 the best, but ops is solid also. Dont bother with ACID 1. Pick it up.
4. God of War: Chains of Olympus- never played
5. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (included with bundle!)
6. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII- Get it, great story.
7. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions- Get i, lasts forever if you want to make the best team. Worth it.

Enjoy your new PSP, you will love it :)

A really cheap, great platformer is Daxter. Only about 10 bucks new, 6 used at Gamestop IIRC.

Regarding your question on Metal Gear Ac!d, it depends on if you like turn based strategy games. If you want a rgular Metal Gear game, don't bother. But if you enjoy turn based strategy game, it may be worth checking out as I hear they are good. I wouldnt know, I fell asleep trying to play it. Turn based strategy games just arent for me.

Anyway, I'd reccomend Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. I really havent enjoyed much else on the PSP(Which is sort of sad considering I've had mine for over two years). I thought Pata-pon, Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai, Ape Escape: on the Loose, Tokobot, Me and My Katamari and God of War Chains of Olympus were all quite enjoyable. But none of them were so good that I fealt like buying/keeping them.

There is a thread already for this stuff. I don't understand why people don't read it and the mods lock these...

But anyway, to answer the one question not to fall under that thread: The PSP Store offers games from the PSone and PSX.

maybe because this forum is already pretty quiet, and wanting to get your question answered instead of putting it in some cateogorized thread that no one reads seems like an innocent situation to me.

is this thread really that much of a nuisance? i wouldn't want to disrupt the rapid flow of meaningful PSP threads

PSone was the original version of the PlayStation. The PSX was the smaller version released in 1998 I believe.

Nope. PSX is a totally different thing-

First came the PS1, and then the PSOne. Sorta like the PS2 and then the PSTwo.
