I'm having an extremely frustrating time trying to get my PS3 online. My Xbox 360 works just fine, but for some reason my PS3 just won't cooperate. I'm using a wireless connection. Every time I do a test connection it fails to find my IP address. I've tried to do this automatically and manually but the connection test fails for both. For some reason my IP address keeps changing. I'm not very skilled with computers so keep it simple. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I think you said you did, but are you scanning for networks? Does it detect any networks?

Who is your internet provider? And is your 360 connected directly or wirelessly?

you try turning the power off your router? diconnect power and disconnect the ethernet cable from ps3 to router wait 30 secs then connect power to router wait another 30 secs or so till the lights on the router are stable then reconnect the cable from ps3 to router try again with any luck that might do the trick :)

I've never tried it, but my xbox is quite a distance from my computer. I don't think my parents would want an unattractive cord running through the house. I've also heard that with a wired connecion, you can't get on the internet unless it's unplugged.

Has nothing to do with your ISP. As far as your IP address changing it technically isn't. You lease an IP address from your ISP (comcast, windstream, whatever doesn't matter) your modem is then plugged into your router and then becomes a private IP address. (192.168.1.x) You can have many different connections all at once all using 1 IP address that is masked like that. What you need to do is figure out how many devices are already connected to your network, most likely you have a desktop that is wired into the router, and then whatever else you have wirelessly. If your router has a restriction on how many it can support that could be a problem ( most likely not though ). The best thing to do is to unplug your router, unplug your modem from the router, unplug your modem, wait 30 seconds, plug in your modem again, wait another 30 seconds, plug your router in, plug your modem into your router and retry with your Xbox OFF. It can cause problems if your router is trying to assign your ps3 with the same IP as your xbox.

What router do you have?

I'm only guessing here but it may be a case where your router is not issueing an ip address to your PS3 due to reasons such as not being confirmed as an allowed device. It is most definitely an issue with the router. If you have a d-link or linksys a simple phone call to the manufacturer may quickly solve your problem. Depending on your network it could be firewall settings on the router which if your not sure about I'd recommend calling the manufacturer.
