Well , this rumor is getting very strong , and If sony wants to sell more PS3s it is going likely to happen (even though they say the only want a single model)

I think they should release the 80GB model at $499 with motorstorm and another model without the memory card readers and 40GB at $399 , hopefully they wont eliminate Wi fi .

Hope its gonna happen

I hope this as well. I would rather buy the 80GB though, if it went down to 499$, even without MotorStorm.

The only reason I don't want the 40GB is becuase I don't want to sacrifice WiFi and the other features, although to others, they certainly arn't that important.

Don't hold your breath. SCEA has said that they are going to continue to go with the single sku marketing strategy for the PS3. What this means is the following:

The 20gb model is already discontinued and all but non existent. The 60gb model is now $499 and is no longer in production - so when they're gone, they're gone.

The 80gb model will be available late summer replacing the 60gb model and will sell for $599 again. According to SONY the 80gb model for $599 will be the only sku (version) available from that point forward unless it's replaced in 2008 with a new version. But again SONY has said they are only going to have one version that is current for sale at a time from now on - this fall that would be the 80gb model for $599.

The $399 sku still might happen. When Sony says 'we're sticking with 1 sku' Sony might be blowing out a bunch of bulls**t. Sony has been BS-ing a lot recently.

Recent examples of Sony bulls**tting:

#1- Before E3, Sony initally denied the price drop of the 60gb to $499....but a few days later it happened.

#2- When Sony finally dropped the price on the 60gb,they initally said the 60gb price drop would only last until there were stocks of 60gb's. Then Sony retracted itself. Who do you believe?

#3- Back around April/May, Sony denied a PSP redesign was in the works. But it happened.

So in other words, the $399 sku may still happen this fall b/c Sony's PR department has been blowing out a lot of bulls**t recently.

those are examples where they had no choice but to deny stuff, is they said yea to pice cut and psp redisign it would keep some consumers from buying the product bc they would wait for the price cut and redisign

there will note be a 399 ps3 by holidays there most likely will be a 499 80gig ps3

most importantly this large of a price cut so soon will really hurt they 10 year life cycle that they want

The best most reasonable thing you can wish for right now would be the 80 gig dropping to 499 when the 60gig is gone, or if they take out motorstorm and drop it to 550.

what do you mean they 'had no choice'? what makes you think this time is any different? sony would rather consumers buy a ps3 now then wait for a new, cheaper sku. i'm not saying a $399 sku will definately happen this fall, i'm just saying don't be so gullible (in believing it won't happen) just b/c sony says 'we only want only 1 sku'.
