I have posted a few times over the years about wanting to get a PS3 from time to time. I have continuously put it off not wanting to spend the money. The only reason I didnt get one at launch is the price was way too high even for me...A gaming freak..

BUT with the new price...Its simply a perfect time. My wife and I are wanting to get into BluRay next year with income tax time, so I have reccomended we grab a PS3. She is cool with it plus knows im a gamer and sees a good bang for the buck.

So here is my question...Is the new slim still a good quality machine? Is it still acceptable for playing Bluray and DVD movies? How does everyone feel about your purchase?

By the way...I have both consoles from the others this gen...BUT Im a gamer..no fanboy so I want the best of every world.

I bought the 40GB for $400 and feel like every penny was worth it. No fanboyism either I just love the PS3's exclusives compared to other consoles.

I am very happy with the PS3. I bought it on launch, and its been running 90% of the time since then. for 299$ you will have the best bluray player on the market because of the unlimited and free firmware updates. You will have 120GB of storage available to store movies, mp3, pictures, etc.. it can also play movies and pictures that are stored on your computer. The games are amazing. I dont regret it for a second and i am very satisfied.

Same

Not sure if this relates to you but the quality of playback on AVI and other files is great. Games are region free, my personal favorite feature of the PS3.

The games are "region free!"??? Are you serious? That means I can play Japanes games and others right??

YES!!!

Yakuza 3 is awesome!!! Kenzan! is incredible!!! (acually enjoyed Kenzan more than 3 but I'm only about half way through 3, I think it was the time period which grabbed me more)

I usually order from playasia.com, alot of times you can get korean version games for $20 (Spiderman WoS, Afrika was $25 full english) not to mention the option of getting games like SIREN and R&C Quest for booty on disc.

I just got it and am loving it. I don't think there's been a degradation in quality at all based on reading reviews at other sites, though I don't own both versions fat and slim, so I can't compare.

I've only heard good things about the Blue-Ray playback quality of the new Slims'. That & the fact that the PS3 is the best & fastest Blue-Ray player on the market screams 10.

No hardware problems have been reported as of yet. The only real issue right now with PS3 in general is firmware update 3.0 apparently makes Uncharted crash often. This is both on the fat and slim models. Sony has acknowledged it and is working on a fix in another firmware update.

I agree with exactly what he said. I bought a PS3 around a month ago and i'm loving it. Runs very smoothly, free online play and more importantly doesn't make a sound (I usually play alot at night when my parents and sister are asleep, so having it running quietly is important).

Anywho, i payed $1200AU for mine, and i don't regret it. Oh damn, i just realised your question was about the slim. Sorry dude, i got no idea. Want me to ask someone for you?

OK...Its confirmed for sure 100% that we are going to get the PS3. I dont have 1080p but I do have 720p and 1080i. Does the PS3 come with component cables? Plus I have heard many problems with HDMI. Anyone here have problems? Another thing...JUST TO MAKE SURE....Can I get the instore warranty at places like BestBuy to replace my PS3 if anything goes wrong? I have been through too many 360s and dont want to deal with junk anylonger..

very very very happy with my slim....its the 3rd generation ps3.. we had the 4 usb port with the card readers, then no card readers and 2 usb, now the slim..... i had the 60g launch, and compared to the slim the slim wins... i can tell it is faster than the fat.

like supporting the psp more than the PS3, when they're never going to topple the handheld giant that is Nintendo, and also making the PSP Go $250 for adding absolutely nothing new. I'm not trying to start a flame war here either, so don't start that. The PS3 is my favorite system at the moment, and i love Sony, but it makes me angry when they make stupid decisions like this.

I have a 60GB launch PS3 and until this day it has run flawlessly, with no problems to report. All PS3s since launch come with composite cables. No component or HDMI cables are included, but you can buy those for a cheap price so it isn't much of an issue. As for problems with HDMI, i never heard about any.

yes to all your questions. We have an 80Gb fat and the 120Gb slim. The slim is just as good as the older machine. Great games, plays SD DVDs and Blu-ray as well as the older model. Wireless is great, streaming pics and movies, and music from the PC hard drive is great also.

btw : both helen and I, think the slim looks just as good as the older model, and it is not as obtrusive.

Thanks for the new replies on this older thread...BUT again...without me having to call up BB, do any of you know if they offer the instore warranty for the PS3? This is the most important question of all. Cause I am not going to sit here and worry if this thing is going to screw up like my 360 has so many times. I know the PS3 has a little better life rate, but I like to be covered....thanks much..
