I'm thinking about buying the 12GB PS3; will I have enough hard drive space?

I have a Xbox 360 (put down the torches, I come in peace), but there are a couple of PS3 exclusives that I've been wanting to play and with the rumored 12GB PS3 being released for only $200 next week, I'm thinking about picking it up so I can play the great games that never came out on 360, but I know that some PS3 games require mandatory data installs, so I just want to make sure that the hard drive will be enough for my needs. The games that I'm interested in buying for PS3 are: God of War Collection God of War 3 Uncharted 2 Uncharted 3 The Last of Us I'm not interested in Playstation Plus or any other games; I just want to be able to play those 5 games without having to uninstall anything to free up room. Will the 12GB model be enough for my needs?

I'm guessing you mean the 120GB version as Sony doesn't sell a 12gig version. Yes, 120 gigs will be more than enough unless you download a bunch of games and video...like 75 or so. You can always upgrade the hard drive if you run out of space. None of those games require mandatory installs unless you download the digital versions.

Nearly every PS3 game has some data to install. Get a seperate 3.5" HDD for under 100 bucks and just swap it out. You'll fill up the 12GB quickly otherwise.

Uncharted 2 needs a gig.

Uncharted 3 takes up about 100 mb.

Last of Us takes up 74 mb.

God of War 3 takes up only 5 MB.

The two PSP titles are where you'll run into trouble. One takes up about 7.5 GB and the other 9 GB. So yeah, you'll need to get a seperate HDD or just get one of the pricier models.

You can also buy this too if you want more HDD space. Or buy the mounting bracket alone and get a larger HDD if 250GB is not enough.

If you're not going to buy ps+ or buy stuff from PSN i would probably get it. But i think you get most if you buy the 500GB version

12 gb is really small. It will become a hastle to play games that need mandatory installs. You will end up having to play 1 at a time.

I would say no, 12GB is not enough. But if you don't ever want to download any of the many great games on PlayStation Network and don't mind occasionally deleting games install files to make room for new install files, then go for it.

Not even close. Just shell out the extra cash for a larger HDD model, or like some have mentioned, buy a separate HDD.

Yeah... If you want to download games over PSN, most full games required large amounts of space. Combine that with the fact that it requires double the space, forget about it.

12 GB is a joke with today's gaming. Game installs are one thing, but there's also the fact that with hard drives you never actually get the amount of space it says on the box (thanks to HD manufacturers basically rounding up), and there's a good amount of HD space taken up by the PS3's operating system alone. You're basically going to be confined to playing one game at a time, or you're going to have to shell out money for a larger hard drive anyway. So save yourself the hassle and just go with a larger model from the start.

12GB is way to small for the long run I've installed games off of psn that were 18GB before so psn would b limited heavily

If you plan on upgrading the HD? sure ...but then why not just buy a bigger one from the start (unless you want to go straight to a 1TB HD...which I would recommend). If not, nope...not by a long shot. Several games are 15+GB. Then some have mandatory installs. Then you have updates. ETC ...not to mention needing more space than the actual game just to download it.

I'd recommend getting something with an HDD.  Those 12GB things don't even come with a hard drive cage so if you want to install a drive later you'll have to buy that as well.  12GB is just way too small for any sort of serious gaming.  Whatever the size of a game's install, you need double that to install it, so if you've got anything else on their you're going to be running into problems fast.

Why would anyone want a 12GB version?

I bought a 500GB version Assassin's Creed III bundle for $219.99 and that included free shipping and no tax from newegg like 6 months ago. Last week or 2 weeks ago, they had the same exact sale. And you will definitely want to download some great PSN games so getting a 12GB nowadays is ridiculous. You will have to constantly install and delete games which is very time consuming and annoying.

It is totally up to you which console you buy but imo you should save more money and buy PS4.Because I think that like the previous generation,ps3 games will also be ported to ps4 so you will be able to play all the games. But still its up to you. :)

Forget the $200 12gb PS3.

Right now, you can get the 500GB Super Slim Assassin's Creed III bundle for $229.99 with free shipping and no tax. It is from ebay/buy deal and the seller is an authorized Sony dealer with a 99.6% positive rating with over 2.6 million ebay sales.

Click the daily deal in ebay and you will see it.

Thanks everybody. I just ordered a 160GB PS3 Slim. I think 12GB would have probably had been enough for me based on the size of the mandatory installs for the games I want that whiskeystrike posted, but upon doing some research, I discovered that the current PS3 Super Slim model is a cheap, ugly piece of crap compared to the previous Slim model, so I decided to spend a little bit more and buy the previous PS3 Slim model before those models become too difficult to still get new.

I think that was a good decision. There are more PS3 exclusives that have bigger mandatory installs(Heavy Rain, Ni no Kuni, Tales of Graces/Xillia, Yakuza 3/4/Dead Souls, etc) if you're ever looking for more to play later.

Sony's not dumb enough to cancel the better models in favor of the newer 12 gig piece of shit model. If they do it would kill the PS3.

That's not what he was saying, he was talking about the current models. When they went to the slim, it wasn't all that long before phats couldn't be found new. Now they've gone to super slim, it'll be the same for slim. Amazon already isn't selling the slim themselves anymore.

Not with Mandatory PS3 game or game data installs. That 12GB flash memory will be gone after 2 maybe 3 games. The memory on a PS3 goes very fast. I had a PS3 40Giger I managed to have just 41 game saves/game data on that system. The memory went fast. So 12GB will not be enough space.

So a 12GB PS3 the memory gets eaten up fast some game such as GT5 take 6.8 Gigabytes of Game data. So depends on the game you have. 12GB will be gone in no time.

Best to buy the 250GB HDD for this PS3 with the 12GB flash memory. Since it comes with the HDD caddy you need. Otherwise you could just put in any SATA HDD. But this model does come with the HDD cradle.

no you wont have a hard drive at all.
