Failure rate is like less than 1%. These threads about broken PS3s got me worried too but mine seems to be working fine.

No problems whatsoever with overheating. I haven't stopped playing since I got it. :D

The only people that complain about overheating are the ones who don't give the system enough room to breathe. :)

Wow, I don't know where these broken PS3 rumors are generating from, but I do know PS3's failure rate is less than 1%. I've had mine on for over 6-8 hours at a time, and not once had any issues at all. Been an incredibly reliable console.

Uh, those reports aren't false. In the last 2 weeks I've kept track of 12 seperate instances of peoples disc drives that have stopped reading games. Most notably are Coloradokindbud and Bioshockownz, both of whom wouldn't lie about such a thing.

There isn't an overheating issue, but if you dig around a little bit on the interent you will find that the PS3 can freeze, and then stop reading discs altogether.

I'm being very wary of my 60gb right now...very wary indeed.

well you must have some friends who own 360's because it aint true. the ps3 is well built and can handle being on for LONG periods of time without any problems. there is trouble with some games freezing but this is usually caused by a bug in the game itself and not the ps3. most of the time if a game freeziz i can press the ps button and exit to the menu where i restart the game. ive only had about 5 or 6 freezes and i have had my ps3 for about 6 months

You make it sound like PS3 has a failure rate equal to the 360. There are lemons, even airplanes can be defective, so why wouldn't PS3 have screwed up units?please.

the only real instance ive heard of freezing has been AC (and in that instance it was the game's fault) and Ubi released a patch to fix that so...

I've had my PS3 since January 2007, and it has been fine. I even fall asleep with the PS3 on overnight MANY times. Sometimes I'll be playing a movie and just go to sleep, and it is fine. IT never has overheated or freezed for that matter. Great piece of hardware.

i don't think i've ever had that problem. i played ut3 last night for 6 hrs and all was well. I think its important to remember that just like any other electronic device, the console may experience a "glitch" once in a while, but I don't thatsof any concern.

On the off-chance you find your PS3 overheating, it might be wise to purchase a cooling unit. Some of them are really cheap, and they're basically a necessity with the 360 units that overheat. Either way, I suspect they'll add to the lifespan of even properly working PS3s.

Let me just put it like this since you already own an xbox360 well the ps3 will perform no worse in terms of over heating. It can only overheat less or none at all most likely.

So far I have had no problem. What type of system do you own? I have the 80g and have experienced no problems with any game or watching blue-ray movies. If it is a new 40g system then someone who has it might be a better choice.

I have had my PS3 since Feb. and have had a few system freezes, though these only happened while playing Oblivion, Warhawk, and Assassins Creed. Since the patch for Assassins Creed however, it has not frozen once, and the only time it froze in Warhawk was while attempting to connect, never mid-game.

Other than that, I could not be more satisfied with my purchase, I just need to save up a few thousand dollars now for the TV I want and I'll be completely content.

Also, the few people I haveseen on here complainingabout manufacturing issues, seem to have had the problem resolved swiftly and to their satisfaction, so there ya go.

The system rarely ever overheats for anybody. But with that said, it does put out A LOT of hot air. Much much much more than the 360 does. Perhaps thats because it has a really good fan? I can leave my system on for hours though, and still be fine. Yeah, now games do have a tendency to freeze up sometimes. Uncharted did to me a few times, ridge racer 7 also did, and thats about it. Depends on the game really.

I've had mine since May/June and play it as much as one can while working and I have had no problems. I use it as a media hub (Blu Ray player, MP3/cd player, et al.) in addition to a video gaming system, so it is used with regularity. My friends with PS3s have not had any problems with their systems and many of them have launch systems.
