i wanna know the same thing as all i play on the ps3 are ps2 games so the 80gb isnt good and no way in hell would i accept a 40gb
I have been wondering this too bub. My PS3 has been acting a fool lately and its getting me very worried.
I have had some freezes as of late and something very scary happened in Warhawk today. I lost all color and graphics in WH during a match. Everything was black except for the sky and flame effects. I could not see vehicles or anything. It worked after I did a reset of the PS3 but it still has me worried none the less.
If we are ever in this situation, I wonder whether or not they will give us the option to just wait longer and have our original PS3 repaired rather than sent a lesser unit. I would reject any offer for an 80GB unit and would have no issue waiting for the 60GB to be fixed (within reasonable limits).
let's suppose your 60gb ps3 broke. You contact Sony and you are told you are gonna get a replacement. Are you going to get a downgraded ps3 (80gb - 40gb) as a replacement?? That wouldn't be fair would it?vancho17
I would remain with the 60gb. I really don't want less memory and the 80gb, well, I probably won't come close to using up the space on the hard drive. If I used up all the space on my 60gb, I would wantto upgrade to ahard drive that had more memory than just 80gb.
I've thought about this same thing multiple times in the past. I really hope they fix it and send it back. I don't want a Emotion Engine-less PS3. I paid $600 for the thing. I wouldn't want a gimped version as a replacement unless they feel like reimbursing me.
In the end, I have faith in the quality of the PS3. It seems like they built this console to last. (fingers crossed)
To the poster of this topic, here is the answer to your question
if your 60 GB fails and you call to get a replacement, if they have any refurbished 60 gig systems in stock they will send you one of those, if for some reason they dont have any 60 gigs in stockthen you might have to wait a little longer but they will fix your own system and send you back the same one
as for getting an 80 GB model instead, that cant play all the ps 2 games that a 60 gig can because 60 gig used hard ware emulation
60 gigs play 99 percent of the games well an 80 gig maybe plays 75 percent of ps2 games
Here is the final answer.
I called Sony about this question and they told me that after the one year warranty expires, it will cost $150 to fix. They will send you the exact same model that you send in.
I asked this question to the Sony representative because at the time, the 80 GB model had just come out and that is exactly what they told me. Case closed.
