While not an amazing score, it's not bad either. But, I was completely expecting a 9 minimum considering how hyped up this game has been.

he was whining about the black and white screen too much. many other games have it and if he played well then he wouldnt get it so much. I beat infmaous on hard and i played the infamous 2 demo on hard. Through infamous i didnt get black and white so often that it was annoying and through the demo i only got the black and white one time. I was hoping for at least a 9 likewise but im still know im gonna love it. The moral system, the way he said it was, disappoints me though.
Infamous 1 didn't feel like a 9 to me so I'm glad the sequel was brought down a peg. It's a good game but not on the top tier. SpellingiscoolI agree there was too much wrong with the first one for the series to be so hyped.
I'm surprised people hyped this game up so much, considering the first was so mediocre.

I completely disagree. Games like inFAMOUS 1 deserve 9/10 scores and games like Uncharted 2, God of War III, and Heavy Rain deserve nothing more than 7.5/10 scores. I'm a gameplay guy that hates when story gets in the way or when the game tries to control your pacing. I think games with excellent core mechanics should get the top scores not games that win their many accolades for their presentation and cinematic fluff

The first Infamous didn't deserve a 9. It was all action, little substance. That being said the action was great and unless it was drastically changed for InFamous 2, it shouldn't be reduced to a 7.5 score. The reviewer seemed to have problems with things he found acceptable in the first game.
My favorite quote of the review - "During certain story sequences, you have the choice to complete the mission in either a good manner or a bad one. Unlike in InFamous, in which evil and pure were sometimes indistinguishable, your options here are entirely binary."
Evil and pure were blatantly distinguishable in InFamous. To the point were certain side missions were labeled " Evil" or "Good". If you didn't have a problem with it then, you have no reason to have a problem now.
I read the written review and honestly it seems like he is nitpicking. Most of the things he points out that he doesn't like in Infamous 2 were present in Infamous 1, and although Infamous 1 was hardly a 9 IMO, it was a great game. 8.5 at least.
This is mainly why you read written reviews before making a judgement off of a numerical score.
I loved Fallout New Vegas but it also got a 7.5, hopefully Infamous 2 is still fun.

Even thinking like that I would still give Infamous a low score. I thought that it started to have boring repetitive gameplay and enemies. I would easily put it above Heavy Rain that had a terrible story and only a good control scheme going for its gameplay. I thought Uncharted 2 played like a better Infamous (when it came to melee combat, platforming, shooting on ledges) and then managed to be a great cinematic game on top of that.
Concerning the black and white screen, Iplayed through the demo a couple of more times and it was never a problem. Enemies even become completely white making them easy to see. And honestly I don't think your health should even be able to recharge on its own. Get to a power source and stop thinking you're invincible. Numerical scores aside, both Infamous games are well made and fun to play through.

Really? In terms of combat, inFAMOUS gave you tons of abilities at your disposal at ALL times. You had complete freedom of movement, a sniper move that slows down time, homing electric missiles, electric grenades, force push, thunder drop, melee, electrical blades, and a thunder strike all at the tips of your finger. Uncharted didn't even have that many weapons during the entire game and you were only allowed to hold two of them and grenades at any given time. As for the platforming, that was by far the worst part of Uncharted 2. It was so rigidly linear and scripted it was borderline inconsequential. Both games allowed you to shoot from any ledges you climb, but there was far more freedom of approach when facing enemies in inFAMOUS. Every building or thing you saw was climbable and a tactical option for combat.

Bad pacing hampers the gameplay greatly, and Infamous is pretty story driven, so I'm not sure what you're trying to get at there.

The story in inFamous NEVER gets in the way of gameplay. Cutscenes are short and far/few between. The other gamescontroled your pacing at every corner. When the game wanted you to slow down, you slow down and they were so linear at points that the game might as well played you rather than you play it. Best example of that would be Uncharted's set pieces and platforming. OH no the building isfalling after a helicopter let loose with a ton of missles! It looks epic and pretty, but whatdoes that mean for gameplay? Press x...
this game deserves atleadt a 8.5. not a 7.5. if anything the first one deserve the 7.5 becuz compared to this one its just plain garbage.evilmaster2424You played through the whole game already?
Get over the numerical value. Read the review and see what you can get from it, if it sounds like it's better than a 7.5 from what you read, then perhaps you will find it to be a better game than Tom.
Infamous 2 did deserve a 7.5 (maybe an 8, actually) imo. After playing it, I can clearly see where that score came from. It boils down to this: the game didn't address issues from the first, the morality system (a core mechanic) is WORSE than it was in the original, new issues have been created, and the game simply did not take any steps forward with core gameplay mechanics. New powers? Cool, but that's just content, not a mechanic being added to or built upon. 2 years (or more) in development and the combat hasn't been improved at all, the platforming still has annoying aspects to it and hasn't been improved, the morality system got worse and they added nothing new or notable to the game in terms of core mechanics. That deserves a 9? No. Look at the Assassins Creed series; AC2 was a step up from the original in EVERY way. They added an economy, the combat was revamped, the mission design/level design was revamped and the repetitionremoved, the platforming was refined, and then on top of those advancements, they added TONS of new content. Infamous 2 is a good game, but it is not superb or excellent by any stretch. It's Infamous 1 with better graphics, slightly better technicals and new things to play with. That is not superb in any way, shape or form. Maybe if the story/plot of this series was exceptional or noteworthy, that kind of meager "improvement" from one entry to the next would be acceptable, but this story, just like the first's, is somewhat predictable and just not all that inspired or interesting.
A 7.5 is a good score, so why complain? The game has been marked as GOOD, so there's really no reason to. People would complain just as much if it got an 8.5, because, oh no, that's .5 lower than the original, which this game is supposedly "better" than. Play the game, if it's better to you, then okay, that's awesome. When the majority of you haven't even played the game yet, it's just somewhat ridiculous that you are all crying over its score. A demo can only tell you so much about a game, so don't bother saying you've played that.
I'm happy Tom took a stand and gave this game the score he thought it deserved from his experience, instead of playing into the hype. I wish he reviewed everything because then the CoD games wouldn't get 9.0s with every entry in the series.
Ask yourself this: Would you rather have him give this game a 9.0, buy it and then feel like it wasn't "superb" or "excellent" and as if it had many flaws? Or would you rather him give it a 7.5, buy it and be pleasantly surprised because you thought it was better than what a 7.5 entitles?
I also love how no one is pulling out the "You can't spell ignorant without IGN" phrase even though their review of this game was vague, unprofessional and overall just very weak. Why? Because they gave it a 9.0 and are helping all the fanboys justify their overhyping of a game, which they haven'tevenplayed.
GS users disappoint me sometimes.

I didn't like the first game that much and am not surprised by the score because apart from creating certain things to do it looks more deja vu.
While the first did not deserve a 9 imo , more like an 8 , the second one more than deserves a 9.That reviewer is way off , complains about very little things and complains about the fact that gameplay hasn't changed much , YET, he is the guy who gave ODST A FREAKIN 9 , yes , that's what you heard , it's called double standard , it's called zero credibilty , inabiity to judge and whatever else fits those words , you shouldn't take seriously his reviews.
GameSpot has a history of giving unfair scores to first party Sony exclusives, though - I would refer you to Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction.SuperWheatBoyBut that game was really bad.......for my dogs , i mean , how are they supposed to play it with so much variety?
