when i got inFamous a couple of months ago, whenever i played for 5hours the yellow light would flash and then the system would turn off and my the red light would keep flashing. But i could turn back on my playstation and keep playing for another 5 hours. then the frequency of this increased and the system would shut down after 2 hours or so. after i completed infamous twice i started playing other games, and my ps3 did not have any problems at all. but today i decided to play infamous, and it lasted 5 mins before it got the YLOD.Now i am afraid to play inFamous. has anyone else had this problem with infamous or any other game ?

That's strange. No, that never happened to me with any game. Unless inFamous is your favorite game of all time, you may want to sell it.

Never had this occur to me with inFamous, nor any other game for that matter. Perhaps its purely coincidental...

That never happened to me but sometimes when I play inFamous my controller will stop responding. All my other games work just fine but sometimes inFamous acts quirky. Weird.

It's probably not a game that's causing the YLOD.

I'll tell you exactly what's happening. Your PS3 is over heating or the sensor is tripping out causeing it to think it's overheating.

SOFTWARE WILL NOT CAUSE THE YLOD, NOW STOP SAYING THAT GAMES ARE THE CAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you should do is blow some of the dust out of your machine, chances are it's got a think layer of dust covering the chips, which acts like an insulater. thus causing the over heating.

Also try to remember the temperature it was in your house on the days where the PS3 ran for a shorter amount of time. if it was hotter in your house then the PS3 would have trouble cooling down. That would contribute to the dust being the problem. I should tell you that my PS3 stays on nearly 24/7 and it's been 32 celsius, or 90 ferenheit for you americans, here recently and my PS3 has never over heated. But I also clean it regularily.

EDIT: Also I would suggest cleaning it NOW. running the machine to those temperatures regularily will cause an actuall YLOD and kill the machine completely.Sheesh, people these days expect everything to run forever with no maintenance what-so-ever. Well here's a simple and true FACT of life. simply cleaning your belongings will extend their life by years...decades even.

^ Reviving 4 year old topics much?... -__- But if you really want to go back into the past. Any game could of caused his YLOD eventually. It's just natural for FAT PS3s solder to break down and loosen the graphics card and cpu from the motherboard. Sure some games can heat up your console more than others though. My YLOD happened on the game called The Saboteur.
