I've only played the inFamous demo and it was definitely entertaining, but I didn't get that feeling of "HOLY CRAP I NEED TO BUY THIS RIGHT NOW!"

Now that it's been out for a little bit and a lot of you have probably played the crap out of it, what's the general consensus: is it worth the purchase or is it worth it just to rent it, play for a while, and return it?

I've played it, beat it twice, got the platinum, and tbh, it was only fun for about a week. IMO it's a great rental, I'd do that first if I were you, and if you really like it and think you'll play it a lot, then go buy it. ;)

I've been playing it for a month now and I'm still having a blast. And it's the kind of game I know I'll still pick up from time to time (especially before the inevitable sequel). So yeah, I'd say it was totally worth the purchase.

Saint, you say you spent 13 hours and still not bored and told him to rent? I think TC it depends on how fast you play. I'm pretty... hardcore, and play games whenever I get the chance. Got inFamous on the day it came out, a day I had off, and finished it that day. But then you gotta collect blast shards and finish the other good/evil campaign, and then factor in all the side missions and just running about (like everyone does in GTA) and I reckon it's a solid buy, but if you're like me and do it all in 1 or 2 days (time, not playtime), then it's a definite rental.

Yeah, its always a good idea to rent a game you're on the fence about. WIth the week you get it for you can beat just about any game. However, I absolutely love this game and think its a must have. I spent well over a week with, and I'm sure it won't be long before I jump in there to shock the **** out of some dudes again. I highly recommend it. Nothing wrong with renting it and testing the waters, though........ but be careful..... Water can kill you! :P

The demo is a little misleading to be honest. You're drooped into later stages of the game and the story is actually very well done but it's impossible to piece the puzzle together from the demo.

I definitely recommend buying the game.

Thanks for the thoughts... if it was 5 years ago or so I would probably buy it and put in tons of hours but these days I'm lucky if I get a chance to sit down with a game for a couple hours once a week. I'll throw it in my Gamefly queue and see if it sticks.

Same here man, I am lucky if I can get an hour of gaming in day let alone a week. I bought infamous havent beat it yet and i got it on the release date. If you have gamefly rent it otherwise find a friend that has it and do a lil trade rental. Plus not to sound all cheap skate like but videogames have also gotten so expensive you really need to know if you'll get the QT you look for ina game

I would say buy. Personally I don't think its hot as much replay value as GTA4, but from the first ten minutes of the game I knew I was going to have to play it twice. Its an amazing game so rent or buy, you don't need to miss out.

I'd say purchase. Although you will easily get through the main storyline and possibly even side missions in a rental, I think sandbox games need a purchase so you really get a chance to appreaciatte them fully.

I rented it and am glad I did. I didn't even play it for one day during the five day rental period and still beat it without rushing: solid rental. IMO, there's something missing from the fun factor of the game.
