Hello all please do not flame me. I have been debating on purchasing a PS3 for several months now. The thing is this, I really like the PS1 and the PS2 was great, I had an Xbox for about a week and took it back. I was going to wait to get a PS3, until I heard the price of it. One of my old Army buddies, talked me into getting the Xbox 360. I must admit, I really like the Xbox 360. The thing is I bought the external HD-DVD drive, and Love it. Now there are a lot of movies I would like to watch in HD are coming on Blue Ray. The cheapest Blue Ray player to buy is the PS3. So I have been leaning to getting it. I have a couple questions. #1, when the PS2 came out the DVD player did not play that well, it skipped a lot. Is this one like it, I know that the PS2 DVD drive was fixed and worked good for DVDs, but the first couple of years it was not good. How is the quality of this one? Question #2, I really like the achievement programs that the 360 has, does the PS3 have this. I have heard yes and no. please enlighten me on this. And my last questions is how is the online. I am not so much in playing online but, does the PS3 have a market place like the 360 has. Where you can download classics, movies, TV shows, Game demos? And does the PS3 do updates to its interface to? I know this is a lot to ask, But I am looking for the best experience for my money. I will be keeping my 360 as well. But I am intrigued by the PS3, not just for Blue Ray. Also any more information about the PS3 would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post, but thanks in advance!

I've watched a ton of movies on it and none have skipped. There is a freezing issue but that only happens if you don't turn off your internet connection while offline. The PSN is really generic right now. There are movie trailers but no classic shows or anything. The achievements that you're probably used to are not here. There is something like that coming with HOME but nada as of now. Army Pride SSG. Army Pride.

i hear playing blu-ray is error-free. There is no achievement system, though home will have something like this. There is a playstation store which is updated every week though no tv show's exist on it.i like the online and have no complaints about it.

I was in Ft. Lewis. 1/25 was one of the 2 Inf brigades out there. I heard there was a 1/25 in Hawaii. Not sure if 1/25 is still at Lewis though. I think Gen Shinsheki or whatever his name was made the lightening brigades and I'm not sure if Lewis kept its Inf brigades.

The blu-ray player is excellent.  Do a search on some A/V websites and you'll see its one of the best blu-ray players on the market.  I have never had the unit skip once and I've watched about 6 blu-ray movies on it. There is a PSN store but the content isnt as robost as Marketplace yet.  Right now they only have, demos, downloadable games (like arcade) and movie trailers.  An achievement system will come later this fall when HOME launches.  They will come in the form of 3d trophies to place in your apartment in HOME.  Online for Sony made games is fantastic.  Motorstorm and Resistance are lag free from what I've experienced.  3rd party games are more touch and go.

I figured it was lewis, I was in second bregade, 1-14th. I was there for 6 years, then almost two in benning, then I was mediacally discharged in 2005.

Everything is labeled in dollars which is great.  No shady point system.  Right now you can only buy with CC.  There are rumors of prepaid cards in the future though.

To be short and sweet, you can get it right now, might have to wait for some of the bugs to iron out and they will be, I'd definitly keep your other system, but worth buying the PS3 in the long run some great things are coming for it and great games and movies are available right now............
