I'd also be interested to know what features on the OS you can and can't use.  Strikes me as a bit pointless if all you can use is it's basic features and browser, at least with a PC you install things and run programmes for photo editing, etc, etc.  But then, I wonder if you can download and install things on your PS3 once the OS is on there?  Anyone know?

In order to do so, you need to have Linux running first, then with a bit of shoehorning and other tricky stuff you can emulate windows on your Linux OS. As you can imagine Windows in emulated state is only good for watching your mouse move at Matrix slo-mo speeds.

Ihave yellow dog linux on my ps3 and it works well and it`s not hard to install, you just have to remember to save your game saves before you format the hard drive.

there is a backup utility in the settings menu, you'll need a storage device of some kind.  You are also able to just copy them.  Select one and press triangle.  Then select copy and copy it to a storage device like an external hard drive.

First off, you need a wired connection to run Linux. A keyboard and mouse is also needed.  You cannot use the sixaxis.  But you can use it just like a regular computer running Linux.  Any program you want to run on a Linus OS pc you can run on Yellow Dog with the PS3.

Buy the latest issue of Hardcore Gamer for a nice step by step guide if you can't find any on the net.

The PS3 version of Linux has no 3D support so the best you could do for gaming is get something like XMAME or DOS BOX working for some old school emulation action, you have little chance of getting any modern games working.

I have been wondering that as well. It'd be awsome to play CS 1.6 on my PS3.

you know you need a USB keyboard and mouse. can you just use a USB mouse and use an on screen keybroad? like you can in XP or does Linux not have one?
